  • Beers and Beards Episode 158: Millpond Dunkes Bier
    Aug 30 2024

rman beer and upcoming Oktoberfest activities.

Dunkes Bier is a German Style Pilsner made from the authentic, 188-years old, Schönberger family recipe from Millstadt’s Sister City, Gross-Bieberau, Germany founded in 787.
In their ancient Odenwälder dialect, “Dunkes” is a friendly word for a person from Gross-Bieberau. Schönberger bierbraurie was founded in 1835 but closed it many years ago.
We named this beer in honor of that deep tradition as Millstadt was founded in 1836 about the time ancestors of many current Millstadt residents immigrated here from Gross-Bieberau.
We brew Dunkes Bier to preserve the cultural bier heritage of Gross-Bieberau and honor our own ancestry.

We also give our NFL preview, and Gary talks about his flag football coaching debut. David talks about his trip to Second Sight Spirits and going to 3 concerts in 3 weeks, and more.

  • Beers and Beards Episode 157: Urban Roots Nothing is Certain
    Jul 30 2024

It's the end of July, so that means it's Oktoberfest season. But David isn't ready to drink one just yet, so he drinks Urban Roots Nothing is Certain, which he got from our new sponsor Beer Drop. Gary breaks out the Old Forester 86.

Urban Roots Nothing is Certain is a black lager with an ominous can. It pours dark as night, and has a nice roasty backbone with a smooth finish.

We also chat about one of our favorite stories of the year: Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout variants are announced. We are a little underwhelmed with the offerings this year - maybe it's a down year after they went all out for the 30th anniversary last year?
