  • The Lake Worth Monster with Lyle Blackburn
    Nov 10 2024
On the night of July 10, 1969, John Reichart was fishing near Greer Island on the shores of Lake Worth, about ten miles from Fort Worth, Texas, while his wife Linda sat in their car reading a book. Moments after John finally hooked a large catfish, he heard his wife screaming in terror and turned to see something moving around on top of the car. As he raced to help, this thing was now on the ground and next to the passenger window, appearing to try to get at Linda. John instinctively lunged at this creature, shoving it away from the car while getting a good look at it. He described it as massive and standing on two legs, horns on its head, covered with white hair and what seemed like shiny fish scales; some kind of human-animal hybrid he said was "half man, half goat." The Reicharts weren't the only witnesses to this scary scuffle as two other couples parked nearby also saw the entire horrifying incident. Almost forty people claimed to have seen the same beast the next night, with sightings continuing for months afterward, generating news coverage and a police investigation. Our friend, author, musician, and intrepid cryptid hunter, Lyle Blackburn, once again deftly and comprehensively investigates one of the strangest and most disturbing creature encounters in Texas and U.S. history in his latest book, Lake Worth Monster: The True Story of the Greer Island Goatman. Please join us as we welcome Lyle to discuss the particulars of a brute so bizarre it makes a plain old Bigfoot seem ordinary by comparison.

Entertaining and Informative

I really enjoy the stories covered on this podcast. I’ve not only been entertained but learned much I didn’t know before. Topics are certainly creepy and intriguing but I love that they cover the historical side of things and theories as well. My favorite podcast of all time!

Amazing results with only three seasons. I've been able to open my mind to "Everything" I do now.

Best Podcast You'll Ever Hear

This is by far the best podcast I've ever listened too. The episodes are amazing. There are single episodes but some of my favorites are the ones where they DEEP DIVE on a topic. Meaning multipart episodes at least an hour a piece, so well researched. Lots of topics; Astonishing isn't only paranormal! Legends can be human too, and even episodes you may not think will be up your alley have a way of sucking you in. Epic banter between the Hosts (Scott and Forrest) , it's clear they are such good friends and people. The research crew are great, Tess and the arch do such a fantastic job. Their fb page is the best run group I've been in, it makes for a great community experience. There are so many episodes already out so if you're looking for a binge, you're in luck!

The Guys Rock- Well Researched and Presented

Excellent show! A show I can re listen to again and again. It's clear that they love what they do, and even on the episodes that I don't expect to love the topic, they find a way to reel me in.

highly recommended

Been following this podcast for most of a year now, it's a great show, funny and entertaining, plus I love the level of detail they go into with these topics and the compassion they bring to the real human elements behind most legends.

Definitely recommend.
