Hey everyone! Thanks for being patient with the hiatus on the show. We are back in this new year!

On this episode I am joined by Maya, a Chinese adoptee who shares her experiences navigating adoption and big life questions. Her story shows that it is okay to be okay with the unknown and that it is entirely up to you how fast you want to explore things when it comes to identity. I so enjoyed hearing from her and I hope you do too!

  • Episode 9: Chat with Ming
    Nov 20 2022

On this episode I am joined by Ming, who is a Chinese adoptee currently living in Washington! She shares how her experiences have impacted her views and the ways that she navigates relationships as an adult. We also talk about the importance of boundaries and self advocacy, which always makes my therapist heart happy.

It is to be noted that this was recorded back in July 2022 so some of the people she refers to in the episode may be seen as an anecdotal example who may not necessarily still be an active part of her life in the current day.

Some fun facts about Ming include:

    • She has traveled to almost all 7 continents
    • She has studied Mandarin for 4 years
    • She enjoys photography, traveling, hanging with friends, and trying new food

  • Episode 4: Two Therapists Have a Chat
    Aug 13 2022

Today I am joined by Abby who is a Chinese adoptee and a therapist from Colorado! We get to talk about important things related to mental health of international adoptees. I learned a lot myself and am very thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with her. Check out her bio and websites below for more information:

Abby Derr-Moore is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado. Abby received her Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Colorado State University. With an enthusiasm for learning how nature heals itself, Abby has spent over a decade’s worth of education and clinical experience learning how to tap into one's innate ability to heal.  After several years of working with at-risk individuals and families in community mental health, Abby started her own private practice specializing in complex trauma, attachment, and dissociative disorders. She has a particular focus working with international adoptees, forensic populations, personality disorders, Dissociative Identity Disorder, and couples and families stuck in emotional gridlock. Abby uses EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Mindfulness, and IFS throughout much of her work with complex trauma survivors to help them find balance within and to heal throughout. Couples and families benefit from attachment-based approaches such as the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy.  Passionate about being able to provide opportunities for all, Abby also provides supervision, consultation, and nationwide presentations and trainings in the areas she specializes with the hopes of destigmatizing complex mental health issues and advocating for those who have been in hard places.
