#85 Thriving Through The Holiday Rush

  • Summary

  • Today, I’m super excited to share a conversation that really lifted my spirits and got me thinking about how we, as hairstylists, navigate this bustling holiday season. It's a time of hustle and heart, but also a time when we need to remind ourselves of our value and prioritize our well-being.

So, whether you’re listening while you have a break at work, or when you’re sitting in your car disassociating at the end of your busy day…pop me in your ears, because this episode is all about paying it forward with some encouragement and real talk on staying grounded during this holiday rush.

"First off, let’s just acknowledge how incredible you are. Think about it — every day, you’re touching lives. Literally.

The physical touch, the transformations, the confidence boosts — you provide these day in and out, especially now as everyone wants to look their best for holiday gatherings and family festivities.

And in these moments, when your clients are likely feeling the pressure of the season, you become their sanctuary. You offer more than a haircut or color; you provide essential self-care that helps them refill their emotional and spiritual cups.

So I want you to take a moment, right now, to give yourself a pat on the back. You are a vital part of your community, and what you do genuinely matters.

Moving on, let’s talk perfection — or rather, the myth of it.

This season, I want you to remember something: you don’t have to be perfect.

Holidays are so hectic, and despite our best efforts, not every strand of hair will fall perfectly where we want it every time.

    And that’s totally okay!

What your clients cherish most is the experience and connection they share with you.

They come for your skills, but they return for your warmth and the environment you create.

Like, if a curl falls flat or a cut takes a bit longer, it’s alright. Your clients appreciate your efforts and the care you put into making them look and feel great.

Because they're not just buying a hairstyle or a look; they're buying comfort and joy from someone who genuinely cares.

Let that sink in for a second

And lastly, while it’s wonderful to be busy and in demand making loads of mulah, it’s equally important to take care of yourself.

Yes, saying ‘no’ can be tough, and taking time out might make you feel guilty, especially when the appointment texts and requests are piling up.

But remember, your well-being is absolutely priceless. Overworking leads to burnout, and burnout leads to resentment…and nobody benefits from that — not you, not your clients.

So, make sure to carve out time for things that rejuvenate you. That fill YOUR cup.

Maybe it’s a quiet evening with a book (I prefer books of the spicy nature. If you haven’t read any of the Acotar series, you absolutely should. Talk about taking your minds off things…whoo!)

Or maybe you like a morning walk with your dog

Or maybe it’s just quality time spent with your spouse or your kiddos. For example: lately my kids have gotten really into puzzles. And so as part of our nightly routine, we all sit and work on this really hard puzzle together. It’s actually a terrible puzzle because all the parts of the picture look the same and I find it frustrating. But the act of sitting with my kids and working on it together brings me so much joy. And it’s only for like 15 minutes!

Whatever you decide is your ‘thing’, just take the time to actually do it.

…because here’s the thing… these are not just breaks my friend; they’re investments in your continued ability to do what you love. Without filling your cup you cannot pour into others! So take the time to invest in filling your cup even if it’s just in small doses here and there. Each little bit helps!

And so as we wrap up...
