About this listen
It's 2105 and Cray has a killer life - literally. He spends every night hunting zombies to keep everyone else in New York safe. Of course he's alone, had a dysfunctional childhood, and could die at any moment, but that's not so bad. Right?
After all, thanks to his tireless efforts and the efforts of the other Night Sweepers, society has a fighting chance of recovering from the zombie apocalypse and being normal again.
Enter Jonathan Harbin, the son of the psychopath that made the virus that created the zombie horde. Emerging from obscurity, he claims to have created a new strain that could decimate the remaining populace of the planet. Suddenly everything Cray has fought for could be gone overnight. There's only one solution: Harbin has to go away. To do this, he's going to have to join forces with the stunning Mira Winston, a government agent with dark secrets of her own.
Thus begins a dangerous infiltration that will lead him to terrifying revelations and the brink of death. He will quickly learn his society is not what it seems, and that he's more connected to Harbin than he could ever have imagined.

Story
In the wake of the cataclysmic events that reshaped our world in 2020, a sense of relief washed over us all. By late 2023, I think we were ready to just live life again. I know I was. It was a time to make new friends and put the past to rest. Rayne and I hadn’t known each other long, but we were building a solid friendship, nothing more. It was our common interests that sent us on vacation together to my remote cabin. What we didn’t, couldn’t know, was that we were on a collision course with the end of the world as we knew it.

Story
As the first waves of injured bystanders, guardsmen, and rioters arrived at hospitals, it became apparent that a deadly new disease had been unleashed on the population. Whether the virus was naturally occurring or an escaped lab experiment, Cade hadn't a clue and wasn't especially concerned until he learned of its unprecedented virulence, unusual method of transference, and the fact that, according to the news, it brought the newly dead back to life, semi-mindless, and with an insatiable desire to feed on the flesh of the living.

Story
Years after the outbreak of a mysterious pandemic, hardly any survivors are left in the quarantined wasteland of North America. Hunger and the menace of man-eaters are nothing compared to the ferals–those who were infected and mutated by the virus. The ferals have an unquenchable need to hunt and kill, and even a single bite will quickly transform human into a rabid beast. Two survivors, the pregnant Megan and her brother David, leave a deserted colony to seek a safer haven.

Story
Originally published in 1897, H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds was the first novel of alien invasion. Wells' most popular book, it inspired several unauthorized sequels, including Orson Welles' 1938 radio play, several movies, a television show, and many comic book and graphic novel adaptations. Wells' classic story remains one of the most popular Victorian novels to this day, and it set the tone for all stories of alien invasion that have followed.

In the beginning, the gods destroyed the world. Five hundred years later, things haven’t gotten much better for humans. The demigods that were left behind to guard over humanity have been using them as fodder for an endless civil war between themselves, and the humans just go on dutifully slaughtering each other, battle after battle. It’s not all bad, though. Perry McGown makes his living off those bloody, stinking battlefields. He works on a crew that reclaims all the spent shell casings. But if anyone found out that he was a deserter from the war, he’d be executed for heresy.

Really Good Story
Any additional comments?
Really liked this book.
Interesting and entertaining take on zombies, aka Festers.
Scientist created virus, genetic enhancement, possible cure, great characters, betrayal, suspense, mystery and a lot of action all add up to a great story.
Both of the main characters are great. Cray a sweeper is partnered with Mira a highly trained (enhanced) operative on a mission to rescue the son of the scientist who created the fester virus. This does not turn out to be a simple rescue mission. The secrets they discover along with betrayal will have life altering changes for both of them.
This is the first book by J. Steven Butler I have read. I will definitely be the rest of the series.
John Pirhalla did a good job with the narration. Easy voice to listen to. Nice even pace and spoke clearly. Great voices for the different characters.

Different spin on Zombies - Great Performance
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Good 1st effort by Butler. Book 1 focuses more on the Zombie exterminators and the intentional infection of the population and less on the Zombies themselves. Narrator very good with different voices especially Cray. Hoping for more creatures in book 2.

Superhuman Zombie Hunter Meets his Match
Nice twist on the popular Zombie Apocalypse. The infected are neither slow nor dead, but fast and deadly. Although there were some unbelievable parts, such as one hunter who protects the entire city of New York, I enjoyed the book overall. The book contained no graphic sexual scenes or profanity, making it appropriate for teens to read. I was unsure that I would enjoy the book as it was difficult to get into, but by the end of the book I was enjoying it. Looking forward to the next book.

Has Very Little to Do with Zombies
I don’t usually listen to zombie books but this one sounded interesting so I thought I’d give it a try. I’m really glad I did because it actually had very little to do with Zombies. Sure there were Zombies and one of the main characters, Cray, is a zombie hunter but the majority of the story was focuses on the “zombie virus” and the scientist who created it.
Cray is partnered with Mira to track down the scientists son to prevent him from releasing another version of the virus just as society is beginning to recover from the extreme loss of population. What Cray and Mira discover along the way is shocking and completely unexpected to them. I usually try to predict what will happen in the plot as more clues are given but I wasn’t able to figure everything out in this one.
The story talks about virus creation and genetic manipulation but it is not overly scientific so I do not think it will confuse or bore anyone.
The narrator, John Pirhalla did a good job with his performance, his female voices weren’t the best I’ve ever heard but they also weren’t the worst. I would listen to another book performed by him.

Good Apocalypse
A different apocalyptic/ sci-fi thriller with hint of “Mission Impossible”. It has the festers (zombies) and loved the main characters of Cray and Mira (Sweepers). Worth listening too or reading. Was in my wish list now have. Look forward to the next book to find out what happens next. Zombie story for non fans of the genre! :)
A zombie story where you are not turned by their bite. I usually prefer the traditional "zombie bite means you're screwed" scenario. However in this case, it didn't bother me. This is not just another zombie book that's the same as the many others. The world has found a way to function together again for the most part, although very differently than before the outbreak. I liked the idea of the night sweepers, and that our main character was a bit geeky. There was a nice adventure, and even a little bit of romance. The best parts of this story hands down, were the twists! I really loved the way the story was laid out, especially the second half of the book. John Pirhalla was the narrator of the audiobook, and did a fantastic job. His voice was a perfect match for this story, I felt like I was really listening to the main character speak. The end of the book was very interesting, and I'm curious to see where this series is headed. I hope the next book is released on audio soon. I feel like even people who aren't crazy about zombies, could enjoy this one as well!

Excellent start to a fun series.
Would you listen to Zombie Apocalypse Aftermath: The Night Sweeper again? Why?
Yes. Initially when the book start I was not impress with the opening story. So I was kind of tuned out until Cray opened up about his life. The story then took off for me.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mira. She is just a no nonsense kick ass zombie killer.
What about John Pirhalla’s performance did you like?
I thought John Pirhalla did a pretty good job narrating the different character voices. The honest truth, it was because of his narration that kept me listening to the story, and I am so very glad I did.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, when Cray opened up about his young life and how his father treated him.
Any additional comments?
I am so glad I stuck with the book. Like I mentioned before the opening scene of the story did not catch my attention right away. I was very close to not finishing this book but the narrator kept me going. And I am glad I did. If you like the Zombie genre then this is definitely a good read. Can't wait for the next book.

Tons of action and a lot mystery!
Would you consider the audio edition of Zombie Apocalypse Aftermath: The Night Sweeper to be better than the print version?
-----
What other book might you compare Zombie Apocalypse Aftermath: The Night Sweeper to and why?
Maybe the Partials series by Dan Wells. It shares that dystopian-genetically engineered vibe with this book.
Which character – as performed by John Pirhalla – was your favorite?
I love Cray's super awkward side with girls. It's so funny to read
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Towards the end after they got back from the mission. I kind of didn't expect that betrayal.
Any additional comments?
I was kind of skeptical going in. Zombie apocalypse books are typically a hit or miss thing. Either they are pretty good or pretty bad. I really enjoyed this one. It's not cliche and it does have all of the components of a good book. I love how you get answers for {some} of your questions. Some Authors are so keen on making you wait it out, but he got right to the point. I love the kick-assery that goes on, especially female kick-assery. The ending was the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers, but i knew it was going to happen! I had a feeling a certain someone wasn't really dead. I wish the other book was on Audible, but i will just have to get the other one ebook version. I would really like to see what happens with these characters! All in all, a pretty decent book!

Zombies And So Much More!
Zombie Apocalypse was an intriguing story with multiple twist that separates it from other zombie stories. The book moves at a steady pace, and has exceptional characters liked Cray and Mira. I love how a relationship grows between the two of them, while their mission takes them deeper into danger. Cray and Mira uncover many secretes that will affect them personally, and face dangers far worse than the "festers" Cray usually takes out.
John Pirhalla has a great voice, and does a good job on the narration. The characters are easily distinguishable, and have their own voice.
