About this listen

When engineer Avery McAndrews is offered a last-minute assignment to the rough and tumble border town of Zapata, Texas, she doesn’t think twice. Used to pushing past stereotypes, she’s sure this project will earn the long-awaited promotion.

Instead, she’s thrown in the crossfire between warring drug cartels and soon, discovers that her captor, Javier Ramos, is more than just a power-hungry drug lord. He’s crazy.

As lead attorney for the cartel, it’s Alejandro DeLeon’s job to manage Javier. But this time, Javier’s cruelty reaches epic proportions, and Alejandro finds himself wanting to risk everything to save Avery.

Running for their lives with Mexico’s underworld at their heels, Avery and Alejandro discover unintended and intensifying emotions, feelings neither sought and neither seem prepared to control.

So good!

I really enjoyed this story, It was a story - well thought out, the characters were well developed and the plot was so intriguing. I loved hearing how Avery and Alexandro's relationship slowly developed. But I really loved hearing Gregory Salinas voice. He was smooth as the female and male. I can't wait to hear the next story. I'm assuming its going to be about the female reporter! Can't wait!

What a great listen!

Harper McDavid wrote a terrific novel and Gregory Salinas did a great job reading this romantic thriller. McDavid provided many characters and plot twists and Salinas kept everyone and everything straight with different voices. Listening to Zapata made my commute fly by and sometimes I wished that I would get stuck in traffic so that I could keep on listening. I hope that McDavid and Salinas do another book together.

Thrilller w/ the feel of C. Coulter & I. Johansen

Zapata by: Harper McDavid
Narrated by: Gregory Salinas
In my opinion, if you are a fan of Catherine Coulter or Iris Johansen, this debut thriller is right up your alley! Gregory Salinas did a fabulous job with accents, both male & female voices, and I was never confused as to who was speaking.
I felt the characters were believable, the world building involving the border town, Mexico, and the cartel system is just enough, the danger, mystery, and twists keep your interest, and there's a touch of romance with low/mid steam.
Overall a great listen! I look forward to book 2, possibly with the persistent reporter! Well done!

It's hard to believe this novel is a debut........

Zapata is the first published book for Harper McDavid, but it is impossible to believe that this is her first effort. The writing is superb, the plot intricately woven, and the characters and setting described with incredible detail. While the story is definitely exciting and thrilling at many points, it also offers plenty of quiet time when we really get to know what the main character, Avery, is thinking and feeling. She is put through scary, violent ordeals repeatedly, but she never gives up. Don't get me wrong, she is no super woman; rather she is a character whose shear fortitude won't allow her to quit even when the odds are so against her. Luckily, in Alejandro, the male lead in the story, she has found someone equally fierce in his convictions. However, the road to these two not only surviving physically but surviving together is long and fraught with roadblocks. I was literally biting my nails or crying the last hour of the book, and I both love and hate the author for the emotional roller coaster and adrenaline overload. I highly recommend this book for any fan of romantic suspense, and I can't wait to hear what McDavid writes next.

I decided to listen to Zapata because I am such a huge fan of Gregory Salinas as a narrator, and his performance is as excellent as always. Luckily, between the wonderful story and the beautiful narration, this book is absolutely worthy of spending a credit. Salinas always differentiates subtly but well between the characters, and his slightly husky voice and Spanish account for Alejandro made my heart race every bit as much as the action scenes in the book.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.

EXCELLENT READ!

I absolutely loved it! This book caught my attention from the very beginning and held it throughout the entire book. This book is full of drama, romance and suspense. The narration was superb and gave the story that extra flair! The author did an amazing job with the character builds and plot. This was my first book by this author but definitely not my last! I look forward to reading more books in this series (can't wait)! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Exciting listen!

The narrator, Gregory Salinas did a fabulous job portray Avery, Alejandro, and the secondary characters. His pacing and voice was easy to listen to and follow along. It was easy to discern who was speaking as well.
The story was a fun listen. This book certainly had its doses of thriller throughout the book along with a slow burn romance which I appreciated. Everything seemed realistic and it was fun watching Avery pick up Spanish. If you enjoy thrillers and slow burn romance then consider this book.

I wanted to enjoy this book . . . . .

I wanted to support Colorado authors and downloaded this book. The main character was a special kind of stupid. This book was difficult to finish, it started and ended badly.
