About this listen

A New York Times best seller and a “charming tribute” (Kirkus) to Hollywood’s most beloved era film and television star Robert Wagner has been delighting audiences for more than 60 years, and his many fans flocked to bookstores when he began to record his memories on the page. In his second New York Times best seller, Wagner shares stories of Hollywood life behind the scenes from the 1930s through the 1950s. As poignant as it is revealing - and filled with magical moments like Judy Garland singing Gershwin at a dinner party thrown by Clifton Webb and golf games with Fred Astaire - You Must Remember This is Wagner’s tender farewell to a legendary era.

"[A] charming tribute to off-screen lives during a period many may regard as Hollywood's finest." (Kirkus Reviews)

"With great affection and a twinkle in his eye, veteran actor Wagner recalls Hollywood's glory days of the 1940s and early 1950s, when class, manners, friendship, and a code of values ruled the city of stars." (Publishers Weekly)

Hollywood of old

I enjoyed listening to Roberts voice. i didn't think the story was that great unless you were into the old stars.

If you like stories about the old guard in Hollywood...

Robert Wagner has interesting stories about the Hollywood of old and he tells them with great love and admiration. This book is a great read for young and old. I enjoyed it very much. I'm only sorry the illustrations didn't come as part of the book.

Great book!

I grew up watching TCM so I’ve always had a love for Hollywood and what actually occurred rather than what was portrayed. I read this after reading Wagner’s other books. I enjoyed this front to cover and think anyone who is a fan of Robert Wagner or Old Hollywood will enjoy.

The way a story about Hollywood years past, should

Not what I expected. No it was much better. Robert Wagner makes you feel like you are there with him and his friends. I highly recommend this magnificent work for anyone who loves Hollywood and the movies.

Like it’s author: A class act.

A truly fascinating memoir of the people and places that made up the Golden Age of Hollywood, told with honesty, expertise and elegance by Robert J. Wagner himself. Truly magical.

OLD HOLLYWOOD TASTEFULLY UNVEILED

This is a fascinating story of a time long gone. It has historical and personal memories of Hollywood's beginnings and how it changed into the 21st century shared by one who experienced a lot of it 1st hand. Robert Wagner is factual with a somewhat respectful grace in looking back. I really enjoyed his own reading of it and hearing a bit of his feelings about it in his tone

Good listening I enjoyed it as it was old Hollywood when everything was glamorous

Good listening. I enjoyed it because it was old Hollywood when everything was glamorous. I recommend it.

Disappointed

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I was waiting with bated breath to begin this book. Unfortunately, it was very little more than an architectural reminiscence of Hollywood/LA.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Wind in some personal anecdotes to spice the story up - very little substance in this book.

What else would you have wanted to know about Robert J. Wagner and Scott Eyman ’s life?

RJ would have a wonderful story to tell if he chooses to.

Great storytelling. Well read.

Fascinating storytelling covering mid-century Los Angeles. We thought it was all lost in the past but this book takes you right into the time scene. You may even feel as though you were there. This is why I read.
