About this listen

In Ava’s dreams, her son, Noah, looks just the way she remembers him: a sweet two-year-old in rolled-up jeans and a red sweatshirt. When Ava wakes, the agonizing truth hits her all over again. Noah went missing two years ago, and his body has never been found. Almost everyone, including Ava’s semi-estranged husband, Wyatt, assumes the boy drowned after falling off the dock near their Church Island home.

Ava has spent most of the past two years in and out of Seattle mental institutions, shattered by grief and unable to recall the details of Noah’s disappearance. Now she’s back at Neptune’s Gate, the family estate she once intended to restore to its former grandeur. Slowly, her strength is returning. But as Ava’s mind comes back into focus, her suspicions grow. Despite their apparent concern, Ava can’t shake the feeling that her family and her psychologist know more than they’re saying. But are they really worried for her well-being - or anxious about what she might discover?

Unwilling to trust those around her, Ava secretly visits a hypnotist to try and restore her memories. But the strange visions and night terrors keep getting worse. Ava is sure she’s heard Noah crying in the nursery, and glimpsed him walking near the dock. Is she losing her mind, or is Noah still alive? Ava won’t stop until she gets answers, but the truth is more dangerous than she can imagine. And the price may be more than she ever thought to pay….

Good listen!

Plenty of twists and turns! Not a scary as some Lisa Jackson stories, but that's okay.

Good book, poorly read

Would you try another book from Lisa Jackson and/or Christina Traister?

I really enjoy other Lisa Jackson titles, and would continue to buy her books as long as they are not narrated by Christina Traister. The narrator had an incredibly whinny voice.... I don't know if was the writing or the narrating but I found myself disliking this book. I later went back and read the book and without the distracting whine of the narrators voice I rather enjoyed the book. so my over all review more reflects the book after I re-read it

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The story was not quite suspensefull, but it did have enough twists to keep me interested

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Christina Traister?

anyone other than Christina Traister

Great Story!

The storyline in this book was exceptional! Lisa writes great, griping, exciting books. This one is no exception. The story was all those things, but the narrator was terrible. Her mispronunciation of words was distracting and her misplaced inflections were horrendous. It appeared she had not read the book before she began her narration as it would often feel like she thought she was at the end of a sentence and "turned the page" only to find the rest of it. Her voices for various characters were nearly the same, also making it quite hard to follow. I highly recommend this book, but read it - don't listen to it.
