About this listen

"A short and sweet slasher for anyone who’s already counting down the days until
Christmas. Barrie Kreinik’s narration takes this story to the next level, deftly switching between characters and points of view as the story picks up pace, rushing toward its spectacular surprising conclusion."—The Berkshire Eagle

This audiobook features bonus content with the authors, James L. Murray and Darren Wearmouth.

From international bestselling authors James S. Murray (better known as "Murr" on the hit TV show Impractical Jokers) and Darren Wearmouth, comes You Better Watch Out, a suspenseful, serial killer thriller that leaves you wondering, is Christmas really the best time of the year?

Forty-eight hours until Christmas, Jessica Kane wakes up with blurred vision, ears ringing, and in excruciating pain. A gash in her head and blood running down her face, the last thing she remembers is going for a run and something or someone hitting her in the head.

It doesn't take her long to realize she is trapped in an unknown, deserted town with five other strangers who share similar stories of being attacked and stranded there. Unsure why and how they got there, she knows one thing for certain, she has to find a way out.

That becomes nearly impossible when someone is meticulously orchestrating their deaths, one by one, and the only thing Jessica can do is watch the life leave their eyes.

The fenced-in town is the killer’s very own playground and there's nowhere left to hide... she better watch out because she could be next.

Critic reviews

"And Then There Were None meets Saw in the deliciously demented latest collaboration between Murray and Wearmouth... A slick slasher that’s easy to wolf down in a single sitting [for] readers who like their holiday fare bitter."—Publishers Weekly

"Who doesn't like giving a little murder for Christmas? The killer thriller that goes with everything—especially if you like red. You Better Watch Out is the only gift you won't want to return."—Brad Meltzer, #1 bestselling author of The Lightning Rod

“A snow-swept little town delivers a gruesome holiday story in another Murray/Wearmouth thriller. You Better Watch Out is part mystery, part haunted house, part slasher movie. Every twist comes at high speed, every riddle winds the tension higher, every death more shocking than the last. Jump aboard and buckle up for a true slay ride!”—James Rollins, #1 New York Times bestseller of Tides of Fire

Great Story…Never seen the twist coming

The story was great, never seen the twist coming at the end but the narration was awful, close to unlistenable hopefully they find someone else to narrate in the future.

Deserves a 3.5! I was SHOCKED! (Series ? Answered)

So, I pride myself on never being surprised on most books’ twists and all that, but I was so surprised at the ending of this one and the connection to another book that I’m not going to give away!! Won’t do it! 😜 Anyway, Mur and Mr. Wearmouth have a conversation about their guess about how many people will have anticipated the twist; their guess was 5-10% and I can honestly say that I was like, “No… freaking… way…” at the moment of clarity and the end of the book.

These two write some of the funnest books together and I know Murray has a completely different occupation on “Impractical Jokers,” but they create magic when they work together! That’s why I’m always excited when I see a new book where they write together.

This story takes Christmas and turns it on its head with the terror and violence! It is one of the most fascinating things once you learn what is really going on and revisiting everything that has been said by the characters. Five “criminals” wake up in the late 1930’s version of a town in Northern New York (criminals is in quotes for various reasons, but you’ll just have to read to find out! Hehe). One by one, things happen and death won’t stop in the group; the characters start to realize that there is probably going to be no way out…

I Loved it and I loved the connection with the other book. I hope that the Mur and Wearmouth write another book with this connection being the focus, but I can see that just being an in-your-face Easter Egg. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Who knows? I did love this book and think that it definitely deserves a 3.5, not a 3. Audible just doesn’t let you do half votes. On my personal scale, I give the story a solid B and the narrator gets a B+. She did a great job, but you really have to impress me to get even an A.

Definitely read this book if you are a fan of weird Christmas mixed with horror like KRAMPUS and VIOLENT NIGHTS that are so cool and bada**. I love the juxtaposition of holiday happiness and horror! 😁

***FOR THE REVIEWER WHO ASKED IF THIS WAS PART OF A SERIES:

Okay, I'll be honest, I hope that this is a clue that they are going to combine one of Mur and Wearmouths other characters for a new book. BUT, what the last ten minutes are talking about is in their book STOWAWAY. In my opinion, I think it's just an in-your-face Easter Egg to the other book, but you never know. So, if you want to know more, I'd read or listen to STOWAWAY. It's actually a really good book. I totally get that readers, not having read the previously mentioned book, would be irritated that this is even in there. Unless there is a reason for this to be put in there (like another book), then it's dumb. I think Mur and Wearmouth should probably have left this out unless they had planned on combining the two stories in a series like you said.***

Part of a series??

The story was good up until the last ten minutes. The narration was enjoyable and was why I enjoyed the story as much as I did.
