About this listen

Four intertwining stories. Four points of view of a single large event. Four people from different backgrounds with different ideals.

And a secret society of werewolves is unveiled in Portland, Oregon.

For 400 years, they have kept their secret. Some will do anything to reveal it. Others will sacrifice everything to keep it.

Alliances will be forged and shattered. Friendships will be made and betrayed. Conspiracies within conspiracies will keep you guessing.

And by the end, nothing will be the same.

Decent genre-mixer

I like the concept a lot. Interweaving multiple related characters' stories that tie together multiple genres, basing it around a police investigation but adding in horror as the underground world of the werewolves is added in. There's a lot to like, and I enjoyed it in a general sense.
Unfortunately I don't think the execution always lives up to the promise. It feels slower than it needs to be at times, and especially in the first half, it feels like there's a lot of repeated exposition as various characters are introduced to aspects of the werewolf societies that the reader has already been made aware of. The character relations didn't always work for me - one pair in particular just kept giving me whiplash in how they relate to one another. The narration didn't really help, either. Even though it's fine by a women, some of the female character voices grated on me - they felt too close to the stereotypical "valley girl" accent, which took me out of serious scenes. Production-wise, there are lots of stretches where the narrator is uncomfortably quiet, but you don't want to keep turning the volume up because you'll constantly be surprised when they suddenly louden things up again.
So overall, I enjoyed it pretty well, but I think all of that holds it back from being a really strong recommend.
