About this listen

"If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be...I am Heathcliff...." Catherine Earnshaw's passionate statement reveals the core of Emily Bronte's tempestuous literary masterpiece. Meeting as children, Catherine and Heathcliff begin a relationship that grows into obsession as family, class, and fate work against them as much as their own jealous natures.

I love this book

I've loved this book for so long that when I became a teacher I made it part of our curriculum just so I could enjoy it again.

compelling and intense; the narrator grew on me

Like the previous reviewer, I was a little taken aback by the crackly voiced, "old lady-sounding" narrator at first. However, as the book proceded, I decided that I actually liked this narrator. Her voice works b/c much of the narration is told by the housekeeper, Nellie. Moreover, she does a fine job with the voices of the younger women and the accents of the locals, both male and female.

It had been years since I'd picked up Wuthering Heights, and this audio book was a pleasure. The cast of tortured characters and senseless and unjust wrongs propels one to continue even while questioning why such people should matter. They simply do. It is a disturbing, haunting story, with--at long last--a happy ending of sorts.

A friend I look forward to revisiting

Wuthering Heights is a dear friend I always look forward to visiting. I enjoy this book more every time I listen or read it. It is a beautiful story that is wonderfully told. There are so many things that are enduring about this work one of which is life nor love is perfect but here is a portrait of how love and life intertwine can always be found in Wuthering Heights.

Audio brings this classic to life

Wuthering Heights was selected by our book club. I found wading through the heavy accents on the written page very cumbersome. After downloading this audio book, the characters came to life and I was able to appreciate how beautifully written this classic story is.

It's endurance

In this world of daily dysfunctional behavior with Donny Trump ruining our country, listening to this was endurance. Total endurance. Some enlightenment with manipulative people and their awful behavior. Also, why did everyone buy Isabella stay in the misery and dysfunction? Move on weirdos! Do something happy for once in your god forsaken lives. The reader is hard to listen to for me, especially after listening to the amazing reader of Emma I just enjoyed. So anyway, not my book but I feel more cultured having finally listened/read. I wouldn't buy this though. You can get audio book free on your library Hoopla site.

An Amazing Read

170 years after publication it is still the best study of innocence vs evil. Read it!

Always a classic!

I read this a few years ago, but since I've only read a million other books since then, I hardly recalled much of the story, so I decided to go back and listen to it this time. It's nothing like any book I've ever read before and I can't believe I'd forget any of it again now that I've read it twice. The narrator is excellent! I'd love to hear her read many other books!

Depressing

Any additional comments?

I rate this book somewhere between 2 and 3 stars, while it was well written, it didn't really seem to be about anything except all the trouble an evil man could pointlessly cause.

Better than reading it

I tried to read this book several times and just couldnt get into it- but then I saw this audio version and decided to give it antother shot.

It's kind of a bizzare story, but I also found it to be entertaining and interesting. The narration is fairly good as well.

If you always wanted to know what all the fuss is about regarding Wuthering Heights then this is the way to find out.
