About this listen

There should be more to life than just surviving, even in a postapocalyptic world gone to hell.

A lonely 18-year-old, Kris Robertson left his mountain hideaway only to discover a deserted city of isolated individuals scrambling over the debris. Young girls being abducted, wild dogs attacking people. Scared young people hiding from raiding parties and each other. Scavenging for a life among the remains of the past. There is no community, no one in charge. Kris must decide whether to assume that responsibility or walk away.

When Kris saves two young girls from a slaver's raiding party, the decision is made for him. He discovers he is responsible for others' well-being and always will be. Realizing the only safety is in a community working together, Kris and his collected band of misfits create a sanctuary on the rooftops of the city. A place away from the wild animals and wilder men. Unfortunately anything good, anything of value, will be coveted by others. Kris and his friends must fight to save what they have built or run and never be a family again.

Good Story, bad narration

I read the the first few chapters and it is a good story and was holding my attention. but I had to go somewhere I couldn't read so I got the audio book. I stopped after 3 chapters. the narrator seems to be reading as fast as he can. not stopping where he should. I world suggest reading but not listening to this book.

YA Dystopian Novel

Kris Robertson breaks every rule his father gave him when he leaves his lonely mountain to look for other people. He finds himself the reluctant protector of innocents in the cities below as he steps into a leadership role.

I'm a fan of post apocalyptic novels but not a fan of violence and detest assault scenes, so I have a hard time finding any I like. This YA dystopian novel seemed like a good choice. I'd say it's written for ages 16+. There was a lot of romance, which luckily I'm a huge fan of as well! Kris is a fighter when needed but gentle with his companions, perfect to root for. The girls, especially Ellen, are really sweet.

The narration was well done, the narrator even seemed to have a young voice to match Kris. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Well worth reading.

I believe the audience the author was writing for is The 15+ year olds and above. The story is fast paced, and made good sense. I am not sure how I acquired, so I will say: I was given this book and am now writing this review, which is great and I recommend this book.

Entertaining

Really enjoyed this book. Wondering why he doesn't just take everyone back to his home in the mountains. seems safer up there. hahaha... Then I guess there wouldn't be any action!
