About this listen

Dive into the incredible history of WWI with these gripping stories.

With a unique and fascinating glimpse into the lesser-known stories of the War to End All Wars, this riveting book unveils four thrilling stories from the trenches, seas, skies, and desert of a war-torn world. From one captain’s death-defying mission to smuggle weapons for an Irish rebellion to heroic pilots and soldiers from all corners of the globe, these stories shed light on real people and events from one of the greatest conflicts in human history.

  • WWI: Tales from the Trenches, a sweeping and eerily realistic narrative which explores the struggles and endless dangers faced by soldiers in the trenches during the heart of WWI
  • Broken Wings, a powerful and heroic story about one pilot after he was shot down and spent 72 harrowing days on the run deep behind enemy lines
  • Mission to Ireland, which explores the devious and cunning plan to smuggle a ship loaded with weapons to incite an Irish rebellion against the British
  • And Journey into Eden, a fascinating glimpse into the lesser-known battles on the harsh and unforgiving Mesopotamian Front

World War I reduced Europe’s mightiest empires to rubble, killed 20 million people, and cracked the foundations of our modern world. In its wake, empires toppled, monarchies fell, and whole populations lost their national identities.

Each of these stories brings together unbelievable real-life WWI history, making them perfect for casual listeners and history buffs alike. If you want to peer into the past and unearth the incredible stories of the brave soldiers who risked everything, then this book is for you.

Four Accounts of The War to End All Wars

I really enjoyed this collection of 4 WWI histories. If you're looking for facts and figures, this isn't the book for you. It's much more about the social history than the battles and body counts, but it tells the story of the war from four viewpoints.
The first is a series of accounts from the trenches, including the story of the much recounted Christmas cease-fire,
The second is the story of an American pilot who went to Britain to sign on with the British air corps because he wanted to fight, long before the Americans got hauled into the fight.
The third is a tale from the "other side", the story of a German-Irish plot to smuggle German munitions into Ireland to be used in the Easter Rebellion.
The forth is the story of Frank Wooten and the Motor Machine Gun Corps adventures in North Africa and then in Europe at the end of the war.
All four stories are interesting, informative and entertaining, and well worth a look if you have any interest in 20th century history or the war that was supposed to end all wars and, in so many ways, actually started the age of modern warfare.

These are fantastic stories about an often overlooked conflict.

World War 1 changed the world. For a war that’s only remember for technological advancement and trench warfare it’s impacts are still seen on daily basis. These stories tell you about that time from a far ranging group of views. Some are entertaining, some are sad because of the images of war torn landscapes and broken men. Most importantly some of these will teach about things that happened that you didn’t know about.

Did you know the Germans tried to smuggle arms to the Irish to aid in an uprising against British rule?

Ever wondered what it was like for your average sailor at the Battle of Jutland?

Maybe you think it would be interesting to know what it was like fighting and patrolling across the Middle East fighting bands of Turks along the way while worry about where you next drink of waters going to come from.

If these sound like anything that would interest you, then you will enjoy these stories. Whether you want to hear about escapes from prisons or The Battle of Ypres, you will have a new appreciation for what these men went through and know why it was called “The Great War”.

The narration is a pleasure to listen to as well. So bad pronunciations here. Get it you’ll enjoy it. I was given this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.

Stories from WW1

I was given this free review copy audio-book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of World War One-WWI History Told from the Trenches, Seas, Skies, and Desert of a War Torn World (The Great War Series) by Daniel Wrinn and narrated by Gary Williams. This was a great find. I learned much about WW1 while listening to this book. It was highly entertaining because the individual stories were great and well told. I really like the historical perspectives that were sprinkled throughout the stories too. The narration was perfect for the subject matter.

The War To End All Wars

historical-places-events, historical-research, historical-setting, history-and-culture, world-war-one, perseverance, personal-growth, personal-sacrifice, perspective, pow-camps, War History Journals*****

When there were only seven in our family we were involved in American Revolutionary War re-enactments, some of our venues were at VA facilities, and some of our friends also did World War One as well. This book is rather like those re-enactments in that they tell the stories of multiple soldiers and campaigns without actually being in those battlegrounds, POW camps, hospitals, etc. This is a great way to learn because it is not a dry academic recounting of hardships and terror, but a personalized accounting in first person of the war events in some named men's lives fictionalized in order to be more real a hundred years and more later.
Narrator Gary Williams brings each accounting to life much as if he was standing at a rope line at a re-enactment. Excellent!
