While doing their best to heal their patient, they run up against a new doctor in Black Mountain who is involved with the Eugenics movement, a program Bessie fiercely opposes. And Bessie and Fletch, along with the rest of their neighbors, are torn apart by a foe threatening the natural beauty of Stone Mountain.

I have regretfully finished this wonderful story. Carol Herman kept me fascinated to the very last word. I found myself missing this wonderful family and all the mountain people and wondering where their lives are now. I know just a book but I feel I know them all. You will not regret having this story in your library

felt a strong connection to these folks snd their struggles through life, wonderful folks. i cried a lot
