About this listen

Second in the futuristic fantasy series that will have you keeping the lights on - from the New York Times best-selling author of City of Light.

The humanoid supersoldiers known as the dechet were almost eradicated by the war. Ever since, Tiger has tried to live her life in peace in hiding. But in the wake of her discovery that Central City's children are being kidnapped and experimented on, Tiger's conscience won't let her look the other way. The key to saving them lies within the walls of a pharmaceutical company called Winter Halo. But as she learns more about the facility, Tiger's mission is derailed by a complication: Winter Halo's female security guards are being systematically attacked by an unknown force. Now Tiger must summon all her gifts to stop those responsible for both atrocities - no matter the cost to herself.

Incredibly complex and rich world

Any additional comments?

I don’t even know how to begin, to write this review. This is such an incredibly complex and rich world that Arthur has created. It is bleak and harsh, yet with her main character Tiger, it begs the question what makes someone worthy of being valued and treated as an equal? And what doesn’t? What makes one person better than the other? What makes one life have more value than the other?

Tiger, who is considered less because she is “man made” has been prophesized to be the one to free the kidnapped children. She has the skills the others don’t. She is determined to complete the task if it kills her, because she has vowed to never let another child suffer if she can help it.

Old hatreds are questioned, some are brought back some are eliminated. The story gets so complex and at times a little confusing. At the same time, there is a ton of action and I couldn’t help but keep listening. I can’t wait to see what happens to Tiger next....Sara

Need More closure

The story was great however it ended at an odd spot. It’s like where is the other half of the story. So many loose ends.

I adore Keri Arthur's books!!

I really love this new series & im watching for book 3, there has to be one because too much was left undone & Ms Arthur is a author who never cheats her readers. Very intricate world building where all the creatures & planet are reeling in the aftermath of a war for dominance.

Picks right up where "City of Lights" left off

If you could sum up Winter Halo in three words, what would they be?

Epic sci-fi fantasy!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Winter Halo?

Tiger's time in Winter Halo was very memorable, though it's hard to pinpoint a specific moment.

What does Mia Barron bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

After listening to her performance of "City of LIght", she *is* Tiger for me. Her voice and delivery are perfect for this series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The shift in Tiger and Jonas' relationship.

Any additional comments?

While there were some moments that felt copied-and-asted from "City of Light", I enjoyed “Winter Halo” as much as I enjoyed its predecessor. I’m very much looking forward to the next installment in the Outcast series. If you like a melding of genres, such as dystopian sci-fi, fantasy, romantic suspense, and paranormal elements, then I’d recommend you give this one a go!

Will need to give it a second listen.

Of course I start with book 2.

As one of the few Dechet to survive the war, Tiger is in hiding, but still caring for her 'little ones', the ghosts of Dechet children killed in an horrendous gas attack that only Tiger survived. It's a world of shifters and vampires, aliens and humans, the dead and the living. Tiger is found by a group of shifters in need of her help to find a group of missing children. She should say no, but she can't. She couldn't save her little ones. Tiger will not fail a second time.

I had engagement issues with this story. I suspect it might be because I kinda came in the middle of things. Backing up to read the first one.
