About this listen

There's never been any question in Sean Tucker's mind that he'd do whatever it took to make it to the major leagues and be one of the best pitchers of his time. The day he acknowledged to himself that he was gay was also the day he vowed to stay in the closet in order to chase his dreams. The problem is, he never counted on Mason Atley.

Sean showed rookie short stop Mason Atley the ropes, both on the field and off. The two forged a friendship, which continued as both of them moved through the ranks of the farm system and into the majors. Unfortunately, there's always been one secret Mason never felt he could share with Sean - until now.

For seven years, Sean lived with the fact that he loved a man who would never reciprocate. When Mason admits that he's always known he was bisexual but has never allowed himself to pursue a relationship with a man, will Sean be able to put aside his reservations about starting a relationship with the friend he'd always assumed was straight? And, more importantly, will they be able to find a way to stay together when their careers keep them apart more than they can be together?

Great Story but Slow Start

I almost gave up on this book in the first five minutes because I felt the beginning was too slow. I usually listen at 1x speed without any issue. However, Rain narrates way too slow for me to listen at that speed. Once I started listening at 1.25x speed, the storytelling got much better. I'm not a fan of long romance novels but this was good. It was a pleasant surprise.

Terrible Narration!

Liked the the story.
But the narration was utterly terrible. Robotic. Cold. Dull.
I don’t recommend it.

Good story, but narration lacking in pronunciation

What did you love best about Wild Pitch?

The story was decent and interesting, but mostly MEH...

What was one of the most memorable moments of Wild Pitch?

Nothing really stands out.

What aspect of Christopher Rain’s performance would you have changed?

Editors should have reviewed the pronunciation of some of the words. He pronounced "haphazardly" as "hapa-zardly" -- several mispronunciations throughout the book became very annoying. Also the "nasal" tone and "lisping" of the female characters was rather strange.

Who was the most memorable character of Wild Pitch and why?

None really stood out for me.

Bad narrattion

Story was pretty good, but the narration ruined the story for me. It was just a too bland narration.

Great Story

I enjoyed the heck out of the story, but found it hard at times to get past the narration. Not only did it sound like he was reading a book, there were so many common words he couldn't pronounce correctly. It was very distracting. I hope he gets better, or they find someone else for the next book.

Worst performance of a good book

The performer who read this book is by far the worst I have heard yet. If you see a word that you don’t know how to pronounce, you really should look it up. I am only a few chapters in and have already heard more than 10 simple words mispronounced. This is a very good book that I have read before. This performance is ruining something that I like.

Good series

How could the performance have been better?

Not fond of narrator, so slow at times and I couldn't take his impression of Mason or the female characters!!!

Any additional comments?

I was so excited to start this audio book because I started with the third one Triple Play first which I loved and the narrator Greg Boudreaux was fantastic but OMG this one hurt to listen to. :-(

Good story

This is one of my favorite books but I had to listen with the increased speed 1.25 as it was read too slow for me.
