Disappointing

This latest by Dan Flores started off as a wonderful work. Information on the Chicxulub event that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs, and the rise of mammals through the megafauna of the Pleistocene was incredible writing. Flores detailing on Clovis and Folsom paleo cultures was equally great. I enjoyed the first part of the book.

The low overall rating comes from Mr. Flores pointing out the flaws of 19th century and earlier society regarding stewardship of animal life. Writing on historical topics calls for objectivity. It's easy to say what they did wrong; nothing like a Monday morning quarterback. Does Mr. Flores really think that he needed to inform the reader that the wholesale slaughter of the Bison was a supremely bad idea? Maybe he has to include a woke homage for academia to give his a gold star.

The narrator had a terrible voice.

I recommend this to any folks that think humans are the best.
I only gave 3 stars for performance because I think the author could have done a better job

Just let Dan read the damn book.

This narration is absolutely terrible. Dan is amazing author and the publisher has tainted his work with the chosen narrator.

Needs a different narrator

I was really looking forward to listening to this book but the narrator ruined it for me. His tempo and voice sound too much like a computer to me. Looks like I will have to sit down and read this book.

Great story, could use a different narrator.

Enjoy d each of his books and this one does not disappoint. Not sure why folks think this is a “hit piece of European settlers”? He offers a fair portrayal of native and European settler impacts on the land that we call home. The story gives warning and hope for the future of the environment we live in. Enjoy!

Awesome book. Terrible narration.

A wonderful book, but The narrator sounds like a robot. Please don’t hire this guy again.

Another home run for Dan Flores!

As far a provoking awe and wonder or our counties past and potential, this book is up there with Coyote America and American Serengeti. Love all of Dan’s books I
just wish he would also narrate!!

Im a hunter

Im a hunter in a tiny place in Tennessee. Have you heard there was a litter of red wolf pups born in lbl? Means the Tenn/Kentucky state line now has a total of i think 7 red wolves a sire, female and 5 pups. That’s awesome

Couldn’t listen to this narrator

I tried to listen a few times but I need the author or at least a more natural outdoorsman to orate this.

the history of wildlife in America

I enjoyed learning about America's history of wildlife and imagining what it must have been like. It was sad to hear about how people in the past tried to eradicate certain species and in turn used devastating methods that damaged the habitat as a whole. I really could have done without all of the biased political views that dominated certain chapters. That really made me lose interest quickly.
