Publisher's summary

This is not a book about developing a perfect golf swing. But if you're ready to play more consistently, have more fun, and master your mental game, Wicked Smart Golf can help. When you listen to this book, you will learn how to shoot lower scores without changing your swing.

If you’re like most golfers, you want to shoot lower scores and will do whatever it takes to get there—whether it’s buying new clubs, getting lessons, or hitting an endless amount of golf balls on the driving range.

But after going all-in on my golf dreams since 2017, I’ve realized that most golfers don’t reach their potential for one reason—they think they need a perfect swing.

While improving your swing to become a better ball striker always helps, it’s not the most important thing to shoot low scores, especially if you’re a recreational golfer or someone without grand aspirations of being a professional golfer.

Here’s the problem, though… Most advice is hurting your game, NOT helping you shoot lower scores. There’s too much information out there and it's easy to get overwhelmed, confused, and frustrated trying to understand the complexity of the golf swing.

My goal is simple—help golfers shoot lower scores and drop their handicap without all the technical swing changes. Because let's face it, no matter how good you get, your swing will never be perfect and will always be a work in progress.

Fortunately, you don't need a "perfect" swing to break 100, 90, 80 or become a scratch golfer. And in this book, you will learn 111 easy-to-implement strategies inside my five pillar approach that will lead to shooting lower scores without changing your swing.

An annotated edition of Wicked Smart Golf, offering over two hours of bonus content featuring more detailed strategies, mental game resources, and never-before-told stories shared by Michael Leonard. Not available in other formats.

Well thought out and delivered

I do not have a USGA handicap, but I would consider myself to be about a 10 os so. I’ve recently started playing again after a 15 year hiatus, but the skill set remains. However, I find myself falling into the same traps that kept me from improving in my younger years and I’ve found that the tips and ideas presented in this book are helping to improve those limitations that I have struggled with in the past and continue to struggle with today.

The statistics from the Tour that are presented, along with the idea of having a mental playing type, and sound pre-shot routines are not new, but are presented in a new, personal storytelling sort of way that makes them relatable to people as players. Golf is a frustrating game, it’s infuriating when you realize that it’s you that is limiting how good you can actually become at the game, not just because of pure determination and endless practice, but by realizing what is actually achievable on the professional level by guys who only play and practice golf everyday of their lives.

This book is provides a great look into several avenues of game improvement that doesn’t involve dedicating your life to working 24/7 in order to play better and enjoy the game more, or being being a terrible person to be around after you’ve played a round with unrealistic expectations.

Great tips for someone looking to improve their game physically and mentally

I enjoyed it! Michael did a great job of portraying what most golfers who are looking to improve their game go through. Listening to his successes and failures helped relate to me and most casual golfers. The things I took away mostly are approach to the game, having a good attitude and establishing consistency. I will definitely give it another listen soon.

Priceless

What an enjoyable listen! I have been having more fun practicing and playing while utilizing Michael’s methods. The mental game section is worth the price on its own, in my opinion. I can’t wait to keep implementing all chapters into my game. I’m listening a second time now and it’s even better.

Incredibly Simple, Clear, and Easily Implemented

The tactics laid out in this book seemed too simple to be effective. I implemented the authors recommended pre-shot routines, as well as decreasing my time over the ball to 8 seconds (counting down from 8) and i just shot my best round yet. The tactics helped me get over my last shot, good or bad, and helped me focus on what was right in front of me. These two tips alone were worth the read but there is a gold mine in here. Great read!

It really will knock 5 strokes off average players game. Without changing your swing!

As a +2 handicap I am always looking to be more consistent and improve my mental game. I have read tons of golf books but this one stood out as the author is relatable, an actual great golfer and has had a similar golf career path to mine.

Very easy to digest the information and apply it right away. Michael does a great job connecting with the listener and explains that even the top players need help to refine their process.

If you have never explored the mental game and are seeking to knock 5+ strokes off your game no matter what level of player you are- this is the audible to purchase now.

Highly recommend!

Great reference book!

Really enjoyed this audio book from Michael Leonard and definitely recommend it to those looking to glean information on how to improve their golf games. I am a regular listener of his Wicked Smart Golf podcasts, which I also recommend, so knew this audiobook would be good. As I am a newer golfer, the sharing of his own golf journey helped me to understand that I am on the right track to improving both my physical and mental game and also to set realistic expectations. Lots of good practical advice to put to use, great book!

What a “Game Changer”!

Michael’s audio book is a constant reminder of everything needed on the mental side of golf. As PGA Professional, I feel as though I understood the game as completely as I could from all angles. Michael reframed my approach with his abundance of sited instructors views, relatable life experiences, and countless ways to articulate the many views on how to approach the game from the mental side of things. I have read over 30 golf self help books and this goes at the top. I will be reaching out to Michael for opportunities to have him speak to our membership, and how to get his book in our golf shop! Must Read!!!

Great Resource for Golf Students

I’ve been trying to learn golf for about a year, and I have the goal of breaking 90 this fall and hopefully eventually breaking 80. There are a number of excellent golf books out there, and this one from Michael Leonard is really great. The narration by the author himself is quite good, and there are bonus materials in the audiobook, including podcast segments from the author. I’m about to listen to the whole thing a second time. I highly recommend it to any amateur golfers wanting to improve their game.
