Acerca de esta escucha

"Pride means power, pride means joy, and pride means to love."

Exactly one year after the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, the very first pride parade kicked off on Christopher Street with a march up New York's Sixth Avenue and into the Sheep Meadow in Central Park. They marched to demonstrate against decades of systemic discrimination, inequality, and harassment.

Fifty years later, New York City was preparing for the biggest pride celebration yet when COVID-19 struck. Undeterred, the global LGBTQIA+ community transformed this special anniversary into a global virtual celebration. In Why We March, voices from the past five decades of the NYC Pride March share what PRIDE means to them and reveal the power of PRIDE in personal histories, moments that shaped their lives, and how it has informed the LGBTQIA+ rights movement.

From riding down Fifth Avenue on the Caribbean truck and volunteering with the balloon arches, to dancing at the piers and going to the Latex Ball, each memory shows that 50 years later, PRIDE is still loud and proud.

Loved it , learned a lot that I didn't know about Gay Pride March.

This is a brief compilations of stories of what Pride means to different members of the LGTTQ+ community. As an Ally I enjoyed the stories and celebrate their triumphs. Narration is amazing as a multi cast narration. Love is love!

I think makes a good primer explaining the importance of Pride to gay allies to help us understand its significance a bit better.

Good, Yet Short

A virtual celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Pride March due to COVID. I appreciated some of the stories, especially why Pride and not Power (everyone had Pride, not all in the LGTBQ universe had the power) but on the whole felt them too short and found myself wanting more. Growing up lgbtq+ in a hyper religious place was terrifying and isolating i was not allowed to be me. I didn't celebrate pride until I was 23 and made friends who were also a part of the lgbtq+ community.
We volunteered at a pride dance for youth kids. I never in my life experienced as much joy at seeing this happen before me. youth able to express themselves in a safe space I only dreamed of as a child. no hate and free expression of self under one roof.
even though pride was virtual in 2020 none of us stopped being proud I loved hearing the lgbtq voices heard

This was a quick listen with some short interviews. Well made production.

Disclaimer: My enjoyment of the narrator is based on my listening speed. I only leave 5 stars for books I've listened to or will listen to multiple times. I'll update my review if I listen again.

This is such a positive piece! With everything going on right now, it gives me such comfort and strength knowing that the LGBTQIA+ community is still celebrating, banding together, and creating beauty to help support each other and the people who are still figuring things out! This was very special, I thoroughly suggest listening to it!

This was beautiful!

inspiring education! Motivates to continue each day...to march in our minds, our hearts, not just one day but 365 a year!

because we can!

At thirty minutes long Why We March Celebrating 50 Years of Pride barely skims the surface of why we march.

Barely skims the surface

I mistakenly thought this was going to be an actual book about the history of Gay Rights in America and the history of Pride Month, but it’s just a podcast.

I was hoping for more history, more context, more of a well-rounded explanation of Pride and it’s not even an hour long.

Way way too short
