About this listen

They touch your skin. You get powers. Then your head explodes.

Like everyone else on Earth, twelve-year-old Drake Hamilton is just trying to survive a terrifying alien invasion.

Pale, human-like creatures are appearing out of nowhere — reaching out with cold hands and vanishing in a flash. The people they touch? They get superpowers. Flight. Invisibility. Mind control.

But the price is deadly: within days, their heads explode.

Now, gloves and long sleeves are law. Physical contact is forbidden. And trust? That’s long gone.

Drake and his family are playing by the rules… until something strange and horrifying happens to his dad — something that makes Drake question everything about the aliens, the government, and what’s really going on.

He thought the creatures were the enemy. But the truth may be much, much worse.

Why They Came is a fast-paced, mind-bending standalone in the Between Dark and Light middle-grade horror series.

Perfect for fans of Goosebumps, Animorphs, and sci-fi thrillers with a terrifying twist. For ages 10–13.

Anytime they say what in the… It rushes through it because it’s a computer and it doesn’t understand that it’s a figure of speech in and the way you say things it’s just rushed and monotone just like a computer and you can tell that it’s not a real person reading it. I wanted to listen to it because this book had no reviews and I wanted to be the first but it was sadly a let down.

The computer voice ruins it.
