Acerca de esta escucha

A serial killer’s secret grave. Another murderer’s victims.

The case that broke Rob Marshall crashes back into his life.

Ten years ago, Marshall profiled a serial killer the press had dubbed the Shadow Man, who killed six young athletes at remote sites in cold blood, and he worked with Northumbria Police to catch the perpetrator. But the Shadow Man kept the burial locations of the final three bodies to himself. Tired of the passivity, Marshall quit profiling and joined the police.

Now a detective inspector in Police Scotland’s Borders Major Investigation Team, Marshall is summoned to HMP Frankland in County Durham, a.k.a. the Monster Mansion. The Shadow Man promises to show them where one body lies, allowing a family to finally grieve. But he will only show Marshall.

At a lonely woods on the banks of the Tweed, the Shadow Man leads them to where the body lies. But they find another three, freshly killed. Victims the Shadow Man couldn’t have murdered, with a vastly different MO. Is it a copycat? A collaborator? Or someone else entirely?

As Marshall and team scour the Borders and the North of England, desperately trying to identify the victims and track down the killer, it becomes clear someone else has been abducted and will suffer the same brutal fate. Can Marshall unpick the trail in time to save them?

Where the Bodies Lie is the second book in the DI Rob Marshall series, starring a haunted detective who masks his trauma with biting humor. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, Stuart MacBride, JD Kirk, and LJ Ross.

Interesting story line. Nice character development. Enjoyed the plot twists. Narrator did a nice job although the woman characters still sound a bit baritone. Overall good read and would recommend. Look forward to next book.

Interesting story.

Interesting story. So many potential suspects. Plus Marshall’s “love” life. Can’t beat Angus King’s narration.

A slow start but picked up a lot

Dang it. Really trying to find a good sub for my JD Kirk books until the next Jack Logan book is released. Angus King brought me here, and is brilliant as always. The first book was alright, enough to buy the second--but sheesh, I just couldn't quite follow this story. I kept getting confused by multiple characters towards the end, and I'm not even sure I understand "who-dunnit". Had to rewind multiple times to understand who the author was talking about. Just couldn't quite keep up with this story and the characters. Also feel like the character development is lacking... not sure if I'll read the next one or look for something else in the mean time.

Tough to follow/confusing

Started listening to this series for Angus King hoping it'd be a bit like JD Kirk, so maybe my bar is a bit too high. The first book in the series was decent, and of course Angus King is amazing. This book was a bit long, rambling, and confusing. I had to re-listen to certain parts to figure out what was happening, and then by halfway through the book I was just ready for it to be over so I quit doing that. I'm still not completely sure what happened. I already purchased the 3rd book in the series before reading this one, so hope its better than this one.

Long and confusing, but Angus King saves it

Ed James certainly picked the right narrator for his DI Marshall series. A great story with a very late twist and Angus did a great job of managing all the characters.

Angus is the King.

Angus King makes it sound like there are a dozen different people in the books he narrates. So enjoyable.

Best narrator

I love how the characters work so well with each other and I love having characters to love and to hate

this is the 2nd Ed James book I have and love it and looking forward to his other series as well

This is a really engaging mystery. Not too graphic, but does grab you. Love the character development. Love some characters, detest some (as appropriate to the story). I LOVE Scottish mysteries, & Angus King is my favorite narrator. Only problem with this book was narrator talking way, way, way too softly in certain sections of the story and for certain characters. He did this in the first book of the series, too - but I’ve never heard him do this with other authors’ books. So for some reason I’m guessing this was part of direction given to King by this author … ?? Anyway, that’s my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5.

Really good mystery - one small problem

You need to read this. Anything written by this author is fantastic and I love Angus!

Good one

I enjoyed this second book in this series more. I guess I've gotten used to the author's writing style of this series, and/or he is now more fluid with it. The first book sounded more like an American police procedural/thriller type of story, just narrated with a Scottish accent (which I love). When the next book comes out, I will purchase it, and also try other books this author has written.

Enjoyed this book!
