About this listen

Winner of the Lambda Literary Award for gay romance.

For many in war-torn 1944, love blossoms in the dance hall, and airman Arty Clarke is no exception. He's a thinker and a dreamer; however, it's not the beautiful, talented dancer in his arms - his best friend Jean - who inspires his dreams. For when his gaze meets that of Technical Sergeant Jim Johnson, Arty dares to imagine a different dance.

Their love is forbidden by both the armed forces and the law, but with Jean's cunning and support, Arty and Jim try to bridge the distance between them and find true love, despite the danger and a life-threatening disaster that could destroy Arty's dreams for good.

Can the pair stand strong together, no matter how many skies have fallen?

What a Surprise So Much Better Than I Thought

This was my first book I ever had read to me and the person doing the narating brought the story so much to life. He was able to change his voice a little for each character male or female or child. The story starts during the great war when being gay put you in prison and ends in the days when England made it legal to be gay and have a relationship with the person of the same sex.
The story is of an American Officer serving over in England and a young English Officer who met thru friends and family who either knew or had a feeling they were gay and ment to be toghter and it ended being able to be open and enjoy each other in public with fear odf being arrested. Jim the American is arrested and prisoned for 18 month on faulty evidence and in that time they had what they called ways of correcting the way you loved and in one incident it caused the death of Arties uncle who the family buried in a popper grave so no one would know.
There is so much about this story I could say but to be honest get it and do not read it listence to it as I saaid earlier the person telling the story brings it alive were you feel the pain, pride and grief.

great story!

The narrator did the worst impression of an American accent that I've ever heard. The story, however, really Made me appreciate the struggle of those who paved the way to the freedoms that most humans have today to express their love for each other.

THE WORST NARRATION EVER!

This book was free on kindle and the narration on Audible should have been the same price. I've bought about 60 audiobooks from Audible and this was absolutely the worst narration on any audiobook I have ever tried to listen to. There is a terrible echo and it sounds like the narrator was reading into a tin can. His attempt to render different accents was just pathetic. Don't waste your money or credits on this garbage!
