About this listen

Jason Quill

I left the FBI because of a personal relationship that blew up in my face. He was the one and I let him go. I knew my brother—his best friend—had feelings for him, and I couldn't get in the way of that. Now, I'm living in a small town and working for a detective agency trying to stop a serial killer before they strike again. I focused everything on my job and let my love life wither in the process.

But the case is a hard one to crack and backup is called. That backup? Matthew Hale, FBI agent, behavioral analyst, and my first ever true love and real heartbreak. This was about to get very interesting.

Matthew Hale

I loved working for the FBI. It was a childhood dream come true, a job that took me all over the country and helped me make a positive difference in peoples' lives. I felt fulfilled. Mostly. I was still missing something—someone. Jason Quill, a man I expected to stay in my past and who surprised me by showing up in my present after I accept a serial killer case in Blue Creek, New Hampshire. It was just like old times, and just as complicated.

One thing I was certain of: we were going to figure this all out, whatever it took, once and for all.

Contains mature themes.

Great addition

Max Walker is a talented writer and I love the Stonewall Investigation series. I was sad to see a narrator change, Greg always did such a great job. Iggy Toma really brought this story to life and definitely did justice to the story. this was overall a really good story with a lot of action and a detailed plot.

Loved the change in narrator

But I do wish iggy used a slightly different voice for Jason than for Matt. Sometimes I’d be like, wait who’s talking right now?!!

Disappointed

It wasn't until after I purchased this book that I remembered I told myself that I would not listen/read another one of the author's books. I don't mind a little romance and or sex in my action thriller. But. it was just too freaking much.

Did someone else write this one?

Let me start by saying I just found this author and have been enjoying all the novels. So much. They’re great.

However. This one feels rushed, confused and overall like it was written by an entire different person. I was excited to hear the final end to this killer. This was not a great ending.

I kept getting the two main characters confused. It could be the narrator, but I’ve enjoyed Iggy Toma before. I hated the trope, It was too shallow and not believable. And it’s constant whining about not being together because of one of the characters brother. Who also was annoying. Generally. Like I said. I really enjoy the author. But sometimes you get a dud. And this was it. I wanted more to the Serial Killer story and less whining about them getting together. I also wanted more about how the FBI was working with Stonewall. I found myself skimming. A lot. So much.
