Made for those already strong in faith

I think this book is great for those already familiar with the bible and its teachings on family, fitness, and finances, however, someone like me who does not attend service regularly felt like I was being talked down to. The narrator was excellent and engaging, he was passionate, and his points were cogent, but it just wasn't for someone who is not extremely religious in my humble opinion, it was kind of a you're in or out, there is no middle ground.

A Simplified Guide to Life

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Todd Isberner writes and narrates "What Every Man Needs to Know: How to Master Faith, Family, Fitness and Finances". This is a spiritual guide for men who are looking to live a full, fulfilling life. Todd includes plenty of tips, strategies and encouragement to help motivate and inspire. This book is very short, and much of the content is used to share names and descriptions of external resources and guides. Nonetheless, it proves to be an insightful work that's worth checking out.

This book is broken into four sections: faith, family, fitness and finances. Faith is the foundation for a prosperous, blessed, fulfilling life, so naturally Isberner covers that first. He speaks to both Christians and non-Christians. He encourages those who are non-Christians to begin their journey with Jesus. This section is somewhat truncated. I'd encourage anyone who is deciding whether to follow Christ to start reading the gospel of Mark. Read what Jesus says about following Him, and study what Jesus says about baptism.

All four sections contain helpful tips and suggestions that can be easily applied to your life. Isberner includes a wide variety of quotes, personal anecdotes and scriptures throughout the book. I found the fitness section particularly fascinating, as he shares his morning routine and reasons he stays motivated. As he explains in the first chapter, this book can be used as a reference guide whenever you're struggling or want motivation in a particular area of life. And each chapter contains a section for self-reflection, which can be a great way to apply the concepts within. Unfortunately, this book is only three hours and 16 minutes long. Isberner spends much of that time sharing online and print resources related to each topic. Although this can be helpful, this work could've benefited from a deeper examination of each section.

It's frequently said that authors shouldn't narrate their own work, but Isberner does a great job here. He conveys a genuine passion and commitment towards the growth and development of men. He conveys emotion when appropriate, and he maintains a great sense of positivity throughout. His dictation is smooth and concise, and he maintains a high level of engagement with the reader. His hope for his readers is contagious.

What Every Man Needs to Know is an engaging work that's easy to recommend to any man who feels like his life is in a rut. It contains lots of tips and strategies that will help motivate and inspire you to become the man God's called you to be.

WEMN2K is the handbook every man needs in 2020

This review is based on listening to the audio version as well as reading the hard copy.

The author of 'What Every Man Needs To Know' simplifies each facet of a man's day to day into four base categories. Faith (spirituality, mental health), Family (relationship(s), fitness (physical well-being), and finances (duh). This book is written from a Christian point of view and Todd explains how the teachings of Jesus can be adapted into our very different lives in the 21st century. The over-arching theme is simple, walk in the footsteps of your Maker and your life becames way, waaaay easier.

Todd makes it clear that as a mortal, he doesn't have all the answers (no man does), which is what makes relying on His word and judgement that much more important. Understanding the teachings of the Lord and translating them into our lives in today's age is where people run into issues. The author does a nice job of not coming off too "preachy" (hard not to given context), and offers practical advice on how to implement God's rules into your own life to walk with Christ, without needing to drop everything and go on a mission's trip for two years.

A 3 hour book that seems a quicker read (and an even quicker listen), you'll want to listen to this one multiple times over to gain new perspective on the author's readings. Kind of like watching a good movie again and picking up new things you didn't see the first time, going through WEMN2K a few times is as informative as it is enjoyable.

Big J always has your back!

This book was a very informative guide on the fundamental issues In regards to navigating this new world as a man. In the first ten minutes i could easily tell that the author/narrator Todd Isberner has spoken about this many many times. It shows he really knows what he's saying.

Outside of mouth noises of dry clicking with the first 20 minutes (make sure you consume a green apple or two, Todd!) he really has a good style that's easy to listen to and feels like you're sharing a beer together. Great job!

I should warn listeners though, if you're not Christian or a fan of Jesus, this book will turn you off. I was baptized as a Catholic and I attend church every now and then, but the amount of times that just simply praying was mentioned got a bit on the preachy side. I personally don't mind it, but I can see it being an issue for others.

I wish the author had a bit more faith in his readers. I would recommend that Todd does take some time to read Maps of Meaning and 12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson. This book does touch on some of the values and virtues but without really going into depth of WHY it works for the more secular listener. Peterson breaks it down and explains it in layman's terms.

Overall, I got a lot out of this book. It presented the fundamental cornerstones that men really need to focus on and prioritize, which is lost in this generation with the shaming of masculinity and over feminization of boys at a young age. Its destroying the family unit and will have really bad long term consequences in the future for men and husbands.

I can easily recommend this audiobook. Just be ready for hearing a lot about the Big J.
