About this listen

A woman with beauty, charm, and grace. Isn’t that what every lord wants?

The lady makes a proposal.

It took nothing more than her father’s death for Prudence Roxbury and her sisters to fall on hard times. The only flicker of hope in their bleak future is that their beautiful sister, Sarah, will marry and save them all from a life of destitution. But when Prudence hears that their father’s distant relation and heir has finally taken up residence in their old family home, Hagley Manor, she concocts a plan to rescue them from their miserable fate. After all, what lord wouldn’t want a beautiful wife on his arm?

The gentleman offers a bargain.

A hundred years have passed since a bitter feud tore the Roxbury family apart. But now Max, Lord Roxbury, has an opportunity to right the mistakes of the past. When he moves into Hagley Manor he has no idea the former residents live but a mile away. That is until he finds an intriguing young woman on his front steps, wrestling with a drunken lout and a potted plant. Indeed, Prudence Roxbury might be the answer to his problems. Captivated by her wit and beguiling smile, passion soon ignites. The stipulations of his father’s will means he must marry within three months. But what is a gentleman to do when he swore never to marry for anything less than love?

Eh...

It took me some time to get past the narrator in this book. I started it a couple of times in fact and stopped listening. She has a voice better suited to children’s books (imo) as it is nasally to the point that I want to pass her a tissue and say, please blow your nose! The story itself is pretty good though as Ms. Clee is an excellent writer. I just wish she would go back to Stevie Zimmerman or try Kate Reading, Rosalyn Landor, even Tim Campbell. I’m having trouble finding a book by her with a good narrator if that last sentence didn’t give you a hint, sorry.

Short but sweet

This is a nice little story, easy to read, with likeable characters and no detailed sex scenes. The banter between the two main characters is funny and truly enjoyable. Even though the book is short it does have all the ingredients expected from a romance novel, including a devious ex-mistress. I recommend this to all Regency romance lovers. The narrator did a good job in getting the story across.

Such a fun story!

This was such a fun story! Loads of wittiness and hot romance. It even has an ex lover trying her damnedest to wreak havoc between Max and Prudence who are surrounded by some very supportive friends and family members.
I love their unvoiced thoughts which truly showed how they really felt about each other but which were not voiced at the time.
I think Adele Clee has written a delightful and entertaining novella and loved its subject matter and characters. I also think that this could be a good beginning for a very successful series.
Penny Scott-Andrews was the narrator of the audiobook and her different voices and voice-acting is very impressive. I was quite surprised at her range of male and female ones.
With all is in mind, I am very happy to recommend this story as very enjoyable and also as a 'should be read'.
At my request I was supplied with a free audiobook by the author and this is my unsolicited snd unbiased review of it.

Narrators voice like fingernails on a chalkboard.

The narrators voices are so aggrivstinly annoying getting through this book is very nearly impossible.

An engaging story

This was an engaging story concerning Prudence and Lord Max Roxbury. Prudence has been taking care of her sisters and grandfather since her father’s
death. Prudence is the sensible one, who is always looking out for her family. However, she is attracted to Max but is hoping he will marry her sister. But Max is attracted to Prudence. Max’s ex-mistress, Catrina turns up at the house party and tries to cause trouble. It was good to see Helena and Lucas Dempsey and the put downs by Helena to Catrina were priceless. The narrator used different voices to bring the story to life. I received a copy and have voluntarily and honestly reviewed it.

ROMANCE WITH A DASH OF HUMOR

This novel has a lot more tongue-in-cheek humor than previous ones by Ms. Clee. It is a delightful and refreshing love story. The author's characters are always unique and detailed. Max and Prudence are no exception. They are light-hearted and witty. Their HEA was quite effortless.

Penny Scott-Andrews is a new narrator for me. This is the first work of hers I have listened to. It took me awhile to get used to her voice, but I ended up liking it by book's end.

Hard to finish

I almost stopped listening to this book more than once. The story was okay but used some modern language in a Regency story that didn’t have much of a plot. My main problem was with the narrator. She made the H sound like a lecherous villain. And I kept checking the speed because it seemed like she was on a fast speed. Having just listened to books narrated by the incomparable Rosalyn Landor, this book was a big letdown.

A great Regency romance with a twist

I truly enjoyed listening to what Every Lord Wants by Adele Clee. The plot is involved with enough twists and turns that I was not able to predict what was going to happen. Ms. Clee, as she always does, created characters that are very human and you cannot help but like. The narrator, Penny Scott-Andrews, does a wonderful job. Ms. Scott-Andrews' interpretation of the book and its characters made her narration very enjoyable to listen to. Over all, I give a 5 to the story as well as the narration. I received an author copy through Audible and voluntarily chose to listen to it and review it. The review is my honest and unbiased opinion.
