Will he help find her sister's killer...or lead the killer to her door?

When FBI Agent Kaitlyn Knight discovers her brother-in-law is Vyper - the notorious cyber-criminal and murderer wanted by the FBI - Kait doesn't question her duty to arrest him. But when he murders her sister in front of her, leaving her infant niece motherless, Kait vows to hunt him down and bring him to justice while raising the baby.

Three years later, and not even a whisper of a lead in her search, Kait is about to give up hope of ever finding Vyper. All of that changes when he goes on a murderous spree taunting Kait with clues that she and homicide detective Sam Murdock must solve before her devious brother-in-law takes another life.

As the body count rises, Sam discovers the killing spree is really about striking back at Kait. He must put everything on the line - including the relationship he's developed with Kait - to ensure her safety. The killer is waiting, watching her every move, and he won't stop until he's exacted his revenge and reclaims his rights to raise his daughter.

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I will start by saying that this is not my typical genre. My wife is MUCH more into the murder mystery/suspense thriller genre than I am. That being said, this was a fantastic book. The characters were really well developed and the story was REALLY suspenseful. I found myself on the edge of my seat, so to speak, and actually caring what happens to Kate and Sam. Even if you are not normally a fan of this genre, I'd encourage you to pick it up.

A fantastic book

Kate is an FBI agent and tech nerd. She's working on a team to find her estranged brother-in-law and sister's killer Fenton Rhodes and has custody of her niece Lilly.

I really like Kate, even though an FBI agent she isn't the girl who works in the field but behind the scenes with a computer so when faced with life-endangering situations she has to stop and think what should she do. She's also not the maternal type but loves and protects her niece with everything she has.

There's a little romance thing going between her and Sam, an officer who is the work in the field kind of guy. Together they're a great pair and there's just enough romantic play to be fun but not enough to slow or take away from the story.

The plot is intriguing, suspenseful and realistic. It's an exciting mystery. thriller!

I received this book free and this is my honest review.

Great Thriller!

I received this audiobook in exchange for honest review. I downloaded the audible book as well as the Kindle book to help me keep track of the twists and turns. The great study on people whose lives have been torn up if not broken completely. The narrator's performance was perfect for the book. I have recommended this book to several people and I think that most will enjoy it immensely

And a great tangled web it is

This is my first Susan Sleeman book and I intend to listen to or read every book she has written! I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I couldn't stop listening!

voice for some characters seemed off. Sam at beginning sounded like creeper instead of texan.

From the first 30 seconds of listening, I could tell I would enjoy this book because the narrator was a pro. As he was portraying the part of a sociopath about to commit murder, he was mocking one of the other characters who was trying to negotiate, and Jack Wayne's ability to switch between narrator, calm FBI negotiator and nutbag killer was nothing short of amazing. So big thumbs up for the narrator.

What sets this story apart from just another FBI-fights-over-jurisdiction-with-local-PD-to-catch-a-sadistic-killer story is the fact that the writer included technology into the story. The "web" in "Web of Deceit" referenced the internet. Yes, THAT web. As in world wide. And that helped it to have a fresh spin on a standard criminal pursuit story.

There is a clean love interest subplot that's enjoyable, and the writer did a great job incorporating the cuteness of a little girl into the story in a way that gave me a pang for being childless. Well done, Susan Sleeman. Authors who can make me choke up a little, for any reason, get extra high marks.

There is an underlying theme of fear that I can mention without giving anything away. It's no secret that the main character loses her twin sister to a killer, her nutbag husband, since it happens in the first 5 minutes of the story and drives the action forward from there.

But as the story progresses, there is an ongoing theme of low-grade fear from several characters who work in law enforcement -- fear that if they get involved with another law enforcement professional, well, anything could happen. And it's true. It's a legit fear. I have a law enforcement background, and there is no doubt that fear is real, although 95% of readers will not be able to relate to it as directly. It's still a unique theme that I don't run across that often and I liked that it gave the characters depth in a way that was different from the usual "I'm afraid to commit because I'm an immature idiot."

If anything, I wish the book had been a little more R rated in terms of language. The killer commits acts of violence that are gross and Hannibal Lecter-esque, but hardly anyone every says a bad word. Seems odd, especially if you've ever worked in law enforcement. I've always scratched my head at the inclusion of violence while forgoing the inclusion of language, but there you have it.

Overall, a nice thriller and one I'd recommend for story, characters and a good ride.

Great narration carries a good novel

This a clean romantic suspense drew me into its web!

Wow...this is my first book by this author and narrator and it won't be my last! It is the first in Ms. Sleeman's new Agents Under Fire series and wow! This gripping story was rather intense, the characters are well written and the story takes you on so many twist and turns. Sam and Kait are put back into each-others lives after the horrible murder of her twin. Both have so much in their past they have to deal with as navigate the threads to stoping Vyper.

I have to say I usually like the heat level pretty high but I didn't miss it at all. I never knew what would happen next...it was a thrill ride! Be prepared to loose sleep with this page turner.

Twists and gruesome turns

Good suspense novel. Did tend to drag on at times, I feel the same story could have been told in 6-7 hours rather than 12 but overall pretty interesting. Worth a listen. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Good Story, Great Narration
