About this listen

In the twenty-sixth century, humanity is at war with the Xenophobes, and the planet Loki is the next battleground.

Dev Cameron joined the military to fly a starship but is rated unsuitable and grudgingly accepts an assignment with the ground forces, piloting a massive walking tank (a warstrider). But Cameron may yet get a chance at glory when he makes a discovery about the alien foes that could change the course of the war.

I absolutely loved this book. I've read all of what's available for the Star Carrier series and also could not recommend them enough.

I was in awe getting to experience the author's imagination and enjoyed the emotional waves felt as Dev had moved through his life, disappointment, excitement, luster, power, anger, all of it was there, other emotions that I currently can not put into words.

Thanks, can not wait to pick up book two!

exceptional read by Ian Douglas

the author uses loads of Japanese words/phrases/labels. it drove me nuts! Just use English nexttime! !!

pretty good story but with a major flaw

It was a book that I had a hard time following. The story seemed to jump around a lot. I felt it was a science class lecture.

Ian Douglas, as usual, knocks a brilliant story out of the park in his ability to create relatable characters in a detailed and plausible future world. The story, with its heavy Japanese influence, is great. The narration, however, is absolutely atrocious! The voice talent (very loose use of the word) sounds like a drunken karaoke singer attempting to imitate children's Anime voices all-the-while thinking what he's doing is serious. If it weren't so horrible it'd be comical. I'll read the rest of the series, but I won't listen to any more.

Horrible tribute to Ian Douglas' brilliance

I gave the performance and overall five stars because of the mixture of a good narrator and a good story. You will enjoy this book so don't hesitate to try it.

Good story. Great narrator!

Your best bet with this book is to wait about 20 minutes at that point I think he settles out and starts telling the story

wait for it ........! give it time starts slow

having read this book as a teen coming back to it is like reconnecting with an old friend. the author does a great job with foreshadowing that you can only really appreciate coming back to it from the end. I will be having fun reliving this wonderful world.

rereading is a delight

I did manage to listen to the entire book, barely. Hated the narration but the story really bogs down when a fortuitous ally shows up and then gets really boring as the nature of their common enemy is disclosed. Could have been much more with a better reader and less of a yawner of an ending.

Marginal

,Slow moving but in the end interesting concepts. jHumann racial tensions interfered with main story line.
