About this listen

Peyne Erlich’s mission from the king is to learn everything he can about the rival kingdom’s magical ink mage warriors. What he finds is Zayda Yond.

Ever since Zayda was sold into servitude by her financially destitute father, her masters have taught her a punishing lesson: erase the past. Collared with an unmovable band of exotic metal, she faces a future of slavery. She’s also become an ink mage, marked with a tattoo that enables her to experience the world as no one else can - a powerful honor, yet one out of her control. Now, Zayda dreams only of escape.

She gets her chance when a scuttled ocean passage leaves her in a longboat, and in the company of another lone survivor, Peyne, a foreign envoy - spoiled, noble, a libertine, and a gambler. He’s also a skilled fighter. And when they make it to land, in wild and unfamiliar jungle territory, he’s the only person Zayda can trust.

Then come rumors of a lost desert city said to hold the key to removing Zayda’s collar. Shadowed by enemies who want to use her power to win their own war, Zayda must fight for her freedom - whatever the cost. And Peyne will do anything to help her.

A good story expanding the Ink Mage world

Really enjoyed the Ink Mage trilogy. It was a series I listened to and was fascinated by. This is a good extension of that world and if you loved the series, this book was built for you.

If you are new to the Ink Mage world, you might be a little lost at the beginning but will quickly be caught up as the story tries to cover casually the base information you need to know of the world.

The narrator is excellent and helps you really feel and understand the world. The characters get slightly different voices and accents which helps flush out.

The one knock is the bitter end and epilogue feels a little rushed in story telling. Feel it would have been better to left the hero’s and ancillary characters a little more open ended to continue the story.

Overall enjoyed book and hope to read/hear more of the stories in the Ink Mage world.

Warrior Prime by William Fischer

This audible e-book was very entertaining. I usually don't read this genre of books, but was intrigued by the description. I would recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi/-fantasy stories. Mr. Fischer demonstrates excellent worlds building skills. His character development is also very well advanced. I hope, if you buy it, that you enjoy it as much as I did.

The best one so far

The writing and plotting have improved tremendously over the course of this series. I think Gischler has finally hit his stride. I'm looking forward to more of this series. The narrator on the audiobook is also fantastic!

An interesting continuation of a series

A solid story, with some hints to the original series. Only one returning character shows that the storyline will be relatively new while also tied to the original series loosely at best. I liked the story, and enjoyed the performance by Ms. Fulford-Brown.

Overall, very well done. I look forward to the next part of the series.

Another good fantasy from Gischler

Warrior Prime has all the action, magic and humor from the original trilogy only with new characters and old faces. I enjoyed this trip to the land author Victor Gischler created albeit not as much as the original trilogy. I hope he continues to write these books and as long as he does I’ll read them.

I loved the Ink Mage series, and this is a great addition to the story. I can’t wait for the next books! Billie Fulford-Brown is one of my favorite Narrators.

Good Listen

I love the concept and the world, but the characters were kind of a repeat and there wasn’t much new. That being said, I’m a fan of the author, I’ll be getting the next book when I finish this review, and the performance was great as with previous narrations by this person.

the worst of the Ink Make books

Definitely the worst of the Ink Mage books. Tons of inconsistencies and blanks within this book. Feels a bit like the author ran out of time and didn't have anyone proofread the thing.
The performance of the narrator is good, but slightly less engaging and less versatile than the narrator of the first three Ink Mage books. Pretty disappointed with the story too... should have stopped after the first three books.
