Acerca de esta escucha

Johnny Lundgren, a.k.a. Warlock, is an unemployed foundation executive who, after surviving a midlife crisis, finally decides to get a job. Warlock soon gets hired by a crazy but genius doctor as a troubleshooter, where he's tasked with everything from battling poachers in the haunted wilderness of northern Michigan to investigating his employer's wife and son in the seamy underside of Key West.

A comedy with one foot in the abyss, Warlock is what the New York Times called "farcical, reflective, luscious, gritty" entertainment from one of this country's most beloved authors.

Only Jim Harrison could create a character fueled by a dream so intriguing that could keep his Reader plowing ahead through such a minefield of adolescent sex fantasies.

An Enjoyable Read . . . despite!

Well written story, but like most of the free Harrison titled recently released by Audible, there's some heavy pervy undertones. Lots of sex with much younger women(18-early 20s) with the lead characters being well past their prime. 2 different books featured said lead characters masturbating while watching under age teens through windows. I can perhaps understand if one flawed character is central to the story but when it happens repeatedly that's concerning to say the least. Also lots of racial stereotypes and slurs throughout several of his books.

I'm surprised he's so revered by most reviews here, but then there's also a decidedly leftist leaning to all of his leads so I guess he gets a pass by the Woke and Progressives.

Harrison is creepy.

This story was way out there past the left field foul line. It seemed to be a fantasy autobiographical picture of JH. If you like JH (which I do) or you like sex, drugs and boozing you will enjoy the opportunity to feast on the writing of JH.

Unpleasant with a main character that did not resonate. Not my kind of book. Avoid this one.

Narrator was raspy and his speed of delivery inconsistent.

Harrison is a good writer, if you can get past the sexism and racism imbued in his characters. But this one went too far, talking about rape fantasies and 13 year old girls. And the story line really suffered here, as if he started trying some Vonnegut approach, died, and had his estate scribble the remainder for the book.

Harrison’s worst book?
