About this listen

A military classic by a legendary American general.

War as I Knew It is the personal and candid account of General George S. Patton, Jr.'s celebrated, relentless crusade across Europe during World War II.

First published in 1947, this absorbing narrative draws on Patton's vivid memories of battle and his detailed diaries, from the moment the Third Army exploded onto the Brittany Peninsula to the final Allied casualty report. The result is not only a grueling, human account of daily combat but also a valuable chronicle of the strategies and fiery personality of a brilliant warrior.

General Patton was more humble and a better tactician than I originally thought!

My great great uncle General Patton was never described in this manner and this book has been one of the most intriguing reads I have ever read!

Legendary Diary from the legend himself.

WW2 insights of a most impactful U.S. Army Commander. Never knew of his philosophy to avoid defensive operations at all costs.

Most illuminating...

I found this reading of General Patton's diaries, with historical commentaries quite amazing, and some of the things said about him seem a fiction after hearing his own words, for example, from the movie, we are less to believe the he believes in reincarnation, and t5 of the fields of battle that he was treading on were the same ones that Napoleon, and his army fought on, and the significance of that!

The lessons in this book should be being taught in all Military academies, and if they are not, then I fear for the safety of our nation, and our posterity!

Patton in his own words

All students of mi!itary history, especially the twentieth century should read all the
memoirs of major and minor participant's, which they can. General Patton sadly died before he ds diary and the work he was doing with the 15th Army after losing the
3rd Army marks a candid ,compelling and truthfully.. I recommend not only lisiintercluding in your personal library..

Attack, attack, attack.

His own unvarnished account of the third army’s own blitzkreig through Europe. He’s the definition of American.

Great book, cannot believe that I was unaware of it. Though, having a map handy would have added value

A must read for anyone in a leadership position.

The narrator did a splendid job illustrating the words of the late great General. The only person who could one up this performance would be George C. Scott.
