Acerca de esta escucha

Following his trek along the length of the Nile River, explorer Levison Wood takes on his greatest challenge yet - navigating the treacherous foothills of the Himalayas, the world's highest mountain range.

Praised by Bear Grylls, Levison Wood has been called "the toughest man on TV" (The Times UK). Now, following in the footsteps of the great explorers, Levison recounts the beauty and danger he found along the Silk Road route of Afghanistan, the Line of Control between Pakistan and India, the disputed territories of Kashmir, and the earthquake-ravaged lands of Nepal. Over the course of six months, Wood and his trusted guides trekked 1,700 grueling miles across the roof of the world.

Packed with action and emotion, Walking the Himalayas is the story of one intrepid man's travels in a world poised on the edge of tremendous change.

I have listened to his previous book Walking the Nile. This book is read by Lev himself , and it seems a bit forced , too much emphasis on making it interesting. Otherwise I liked it

Nonstop action and history in this story - I knew there were stories like these and those of the travelers of the past but I finally found it with Levison

Adventure worth listening

This is the first book by mr. Levison Wood I have read and it certainly won’t be the last.
You feel that you are right there with him, so expertly narrated by the author.
If you are at all interested in exploring the world, I urge all to get this book.
“Google Earth” is a helpful tool to re-orient you to the places mentioned in the book.
My thanks to all involved, JK.

A MUST READ

Truly a story you don't want to end but at the same time you can't wait for him and his friends to reach their goal with elation.

Captivating & Inspirational

This was an excellent book, and it reminded me of when I was in Afghanistan 2009 -2010. The Hindu Hush mountains are beautiful!

A great walking story period

Lev is engaging and entertaining, telling the story of his epic journey in a very personal style. The story focuses on the people Lev meets and their relationship to the unique landscapes they inhabit, as they help him survive (literally) to tell the tale.

Levison Wood writes quite well and he clearly has not been reluctant to expose himself to all sorts of dangers, and I guess that's something you have to admire him for. So just why didn't this book have me sitting on the edge of my seat ? I guess because it didn't rise to the level of being fascinating. I regret that I did not have difficulty in putting this one down (or rather, stopping the recording) whenever there was something more interesting to do. Perhaps unfairly, I began to get the feeling that his object was more to get it done so that he could go back with a good subject for a new book than to give rein to a sincere and abiding interest and curiosity about what he would find on the way. Truth is, about half way through I came to the conclusion that I was not going to learn anything that would move my mind along new and interesting pathways and I gave up. Sorry.

Sorry but I got bored

from the first half I was getting discouraged I usually love travel books but it's one thing to be too much about him and too little about the fascinating country he was in the second half picked up and I did become engaged certainly appreciate that he did the work for me

second half saved the first half

it s a great travel story, very well read and adding wisdom about being happy.

I loved the story, the wisdom, and the reading.

Cannot say I dislike the book, but still find it missing some depth. Perhaps the author leaves it for readers to figure out.

Unique journey in and around an unique region
