About this listen

A must for fans of Psychic Detective Mysteries with a twist. Streaming Sarah is like Ghost Whisperer meets Dead Files. In 2035 Portland, Oregon, a Homicide Detective awakens from a coma with the ability to see into parallel worlds. A Doppelgänger teaches her to stream the soul and memories of her Department's murdered victims to bring their killers to justice. Dying was the break she needed…Or so she thought.

Homicide Detective Katie Hanson prided herself on being an advocate for the dead. When she returns home from the hospital after a near-death experience, she realizes the door to the spirit world remained open...wide open. Now Katie hears voices, sees things that are not there, the murder victims of her Department's cold cases are haunting her, beginning with Sarah Alexander and her two children. As Katie navigates the waters of being a medium in search of the truth behind Sarah and her children’s horrific murder, she finds that she is also able to see into a parallel world, where her doppelgänger P-Kate helps her learn to stream Sarah's consciousness, her memories, her very soul. Thinking she is on the edge of the truth, Katie realizes that a dead person’s memory of the events can be as flawed as the living: Sarah’s testimony does not match the evidence.

Houston style magazine - walk-in investigations: Blistering paranormal detective mystery, hailed “thought-provoking” by critics, solves cold case in parallel universe.

Mixed feeling

I had mixed feeling for this book. The beginning did not grab me and I have to admit that I stopped listening to it for a while. I found the beginning hard to believe (not the suicide) but her obtaining 'power'. However, it was an interesting way of getting this said power.
When we get further into the book it actually gets better and I even liked the mystery.
Would I recommend it? Yes, I would.
Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Intriguing!

My first Audible book mystery tickled my imagination. Who better than the victim to help solve their murder? Set slightly in the future, homicide detective Sarah has a near death experience that gifts her with the ability to pierce the veil between the living and the dead. With twists and turns, the book held my interest and left me wanting to follow Sarah as she takes on cases that need her special skills to be solved.

Don't let this book walk away it's a must listen

Wow, I loved this book. I know it was only 5 hours and 42 minutes but once I started the story I had to play it all the way through and I heard it all in one day. I really liked everything about the book and hope the author is writing her next book, as I will definitely be keeping an eye out for book two. The whole plot idea was intriguing. I don't normally choose sci-fi stories my genre is mystery but this sounded different and I have listened to the odd sci-fi for a change so thought I would give it ago. So glad I did. I really liked the characters and felt the author tried hard to make you connect with them. I had worked out who the killer was but found it fascinating getting to the same conclusion and I loved all the ghostly goings on.
Kate has reason to hate her wedding day, as it is also the day her twin brother and mother died. So it is not surprising when she can't take the walk down the aisle. Things sprial out of control and she ends up waking up in a hospital bed. She has always had an open mind, well she is best friends with a psychic but her life will never be the same again. Kate is a cop and she finds that now she can speak for the dead, literally. When she died she connected with a parallel universe and the spirit world at the same time and a ghost needs her help solving her family's death. At the same time parallel Kate (P Kate) is working on the same case. Can the two find a way to work together and solve the murder? Talking to ghosts should make it easier, right?
I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job of putting emotion into her reading making an exciting listen.

I really enjoyed this book!

I was so happy when I heard this book was going to be released on audio as I rarely have time to sit and read a book. I listen to it all the way through during a long drive and was very pleased with it. This book kept me intrigued. I enjoyed the narrator as well and the story line, the twists and even that the pup had a part in the story and was involved in the mystery.

I normally do not read/listen to mystery books, but now I can not wait for the second book!

Something for everyone

I loved this thought provoking novel. It’s part mystery, cop story, courtroom drama, and explores multi-dimensional concepts like no other book I’ve read. You’ll fall in love with the characters and wonder how long until a sequel is released. A really creative first novel by a writer with a unique voice who is carving out her own genre. A fast, enjoyable listen with an entertaining narrator. Give it a try!

Paranormal investigations

This book is one that I didn’t want to put down the characters were spot on. Maybe I missed something but couldn’t figure out why Kate called her parallel self p-Kate. To contact a murdered victim to help solve their murder is an awesome aspect of investigation.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next one to come out.

Help from the other side!

Anybody contemplating suicide should listen to the first part of the book. I think they would change their minds.

Well-written, holds your attention throughout.

Melinda Wade did a great job narrating.

Cannot wait for book 2

I was totally into this story within the first 5 minutes. This was a great start to this series. I cannot wait for book 2 and the rest if the seried.

The book does start with a suicide attempt but she does learn from her mistake and gains psychic powers. She is then able to assist in solving cold case murders with the help of people on this side as well as the other side and another demention.

Interesting listen

This was a very interesting listen. There is not much difference between the world today and 15 years from now, with the possible exception of bullet trains and paddle-less defibrillators. The idea of using a psychic to help solve crimes was an interesting story plot. Someone killed three members of a family and the psychics channeled the victims to help solve the crimes.

I liked the narration and the story well-enough but the scenes in the courthouse showed no actual knowledge of legal proceedings. That was disturbing and distracting.

Different....

The story started out okay but something was a bit off for me. I can’t pinpoint the exact issue, though. The narration was good most of the time but, again, something was just not right. Maybe, it seemed a bit stilted....though, I’m not sure if it was the writing or the narration. I didnt finish the book. I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.
