Publisher's summary

Ten years ago, Craig Johnson wrote his first short story, the Hillerman Award-winning "Old Indian Trick". This was one of the earliest appearances of the sheriff who would go on to star in Johnson’s best-selling, award-winning novels and the A&E hit series Longmire. Each Christmas Eve thereafter, fans rejoiced when Johnson sent out a new short story featuring an episode in Walt’s life that doesn’t appear in the novels; over the years, many have asked why they can’t buy the stories in book form. Wait for Signs collects those beloved stories - and one entirely new story, "Petunia, Bandit Queen of the Bighorns" - for the very first time in a single volume, regular trade hardcover. With glimpses of Walt’s past from the incident in "Ministerial Aide", when the sheriff is mistaken for a deity, to the hilarious "Messenger", where the majority of the action takes place in a Port-A-Potty, Wait for Signs is a necessary addition to any Longmire fan’s shelf and a wonderful way to introduce new readers to the fictional world of Absaroka County, Wyoming.

Love George Guidall as Walt Longmire

If you could sum up Wait for Signs in three words, what would they be?

Taste of longmire

Any additional comments?

I enjoy the short stories but do wish they were longer

Classic Longmire . . . Entertaining & Fun

These short stories are the best . . . smart mouthed Vic (Longmire's under sheriff) and her owl encounter had me totally in stitches . . . great listen for a road trip . . . none of the "politically correct" stuff here, The Cheyenne Nation, Henry Standing Bear, Walt's best friend , is along with all his Indian wisdom . . . don't miss it!

Stories To Tickle and Amaze,Yes, it is so.

All the stories captured the essence of small community living, decorated with characters your grandparents told you about growing up. Listening to these stories is like catching up with the folks back home. The only reason I gave the Overall 4 stars is because there were only twelve stories. I was not ready to be at the end of the Signs.

A collection that might get me into the series

This is a collection of the famous Walt Longmire stories. I have read one of his full novels in the past, and was only so-so with it. After these shorter stories I will be revisiting a full novel with a better knowledge of Walt himself. I think it will help me get into the series, which I so wanted to.

I love Walt Longmire!

I am a huge fan of Walt and all his Absaroka County companions, and this book of short stories is a perfect mixture of humor, drama, and good old-fashioned storytelling, with some holiday heart warmers thrown in for good measure. The narrator is perfectly cast and the characters each have lives of their own, with hilarious combinations of sophisticated intellectualism and down home philosophy and wisdom, including some thought-provoking Native American lore. I’d like to spend Christmas at Walt’s house and New Year’s Eve at The Red Pony’s continual soirée.

What a Great Collection

From the first sad tales of Longmire’s grief to another one that had me laughing out loud about bears and Vic, Henry and Walt in an outhouse, they are all well done. And of corse, Guidall is the perfect voice of Longmire.

I don’t usually like short stories. Loved this.

I especially loved getting more background on Walter, the family, and the characters in Absaroca county. Wonderfully done.
