About this listen

All Sophia Fontanelle wanted was to be left alone. On the run from New Orleans and its vampire council, she heads to Los Angeles to start a new life. But when The Caballero, the ancient peacekeeper rumored to be the great Zorro himself, is murdered, Sophia finds herself caught up in a fight to clear her name. Threatened by a 1950s-era gangster turned vamp by the Caballero himself, can she survive in Vamp City?

“Vampire noir in L.A. by way of New Orleans, with progressive creatures of the night trying to solve a twisted murder mystery. Sophia is a powerful lead fighting to clear her name in C.D. Brown’s compelling debut.” (Alan Baxter, author of Hidden City and the Alex Caine series)

I really quite liked this book

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was an interesting and well done vampire story. It has a unique take on the vampire legend and a good storyline. The narration is well done, too. All in all, I rather quite enjoyed this book and would be open to more in the series (assuming it becomes one).

Great story

I don't normally like genre fiction, but the storytelling is sound and the jokes land. the world is well designed and built.

Good book

Interesting book with a nice take on vampires. The story was good, but none of the characters really resonated with me.

Great Narrator, Mediocre Story

Naive, repetitive plotline brought to life by a brilliantly creative narration performance. Veronica brings life to an otherwise flat story.

Not A Typical Vampire Story

I've never read or listened to anything by this author, but as I'm a fan of this genre I thought I would give this one a listen. The storyline is original and different, not at all a typical vampire story.

This story isn't a horror story, nor is it a romance although our leading lady Sophia Fontanelle does find someone she may be able to spend the rest of her future with. It's a story about vampires living in Los Angeles and adapting to the death of the oldest vampire, their leader if you like, it's set in our modern age, with flash-backs to Sophia's life before she was turned. It's not a complicated story but it does have lots of factions to it, there are some humans, some shifters, and vampires good and bad.

I enjoyed the story and I liked the characters, the author's writing style is good and had no trouble holding my attention. There were three parts to the story which is involved and goes into a lot of detail as we follow Sophia in her journey from new arrival to Sherrif and leader of the free vampires of LA.

I loved the excellent narration by Veronica Giguere she did a wonderful job with this book, she totally nailed it with all the different accents and inflections. She brought each and every character to life for me.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

A Fun and Sometimes Dark Vamp Story

Great voice variation coupled with a creative and fun vampire story. The struggle is real for a vampire looking for a change of scenery when she is thrust into a position she doesn't want, but has no choice but to take. I love the way Sophia handles here problem and remains true to who she is throughout.

Decent

Story and plot are well thought out. Interesting urban setting. For me it really comes down to narration. The performance didn’t do enough to sell the story for me. More reflection through the dialogue was needed. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

There Is A New Vamp In Town

This is not your typical vampire story. It seemed more like a mystery/suspense tale than classic vampire. It is vampires trying to be good with the help of a support group similar to AA. There is some violence and fighting, but that is almost incidental to the plot. If it is total carnage you are looking for in a vampire book look elsewhere.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Good young adult

Good Young Adult

I always hesitate when it comes to young adult novels, you never whether you're going to get something closer to hunger games or something closer to well one of the numerous other bad young adult novels. With the terrible forced romance

WOW!!

This was a very exciting story! I loved the storyline and all of the characters. Their struggle to work together despite their differences in opinions. This was a good prevails against evil story if I've ever found one :) I would recommend!
