About this listen

Kyle Vaughn had three goals in life: become a vet, find the man of his dreams, and start a family. He easily checked off the first item on the list when he took over his grandfather's veterinary practice. Too bad he wasn't as lucky in love.

Chaz Hamilton took a leap of faith when he decided to pursue a career in writing, but one best seller didn't mean he could quit his day job. All work and no play threatened to make Chaz a very dull man when the only romantic action he saw was in the pages of his manuscript. Too bad he couldn't write his own happily every after.

Circumstances pushed the two men together, and one magical kiss beneath fireworks and stars changed everything. Kyle knew his luck had finally turned around and Chaz found a man far better than any book boyfriend ever written. There was just one problem. Chaz has kept a secret from Kyle that could ruin their chance at a beautiful life together.

Kyle and Chaz learn that the best-laid plans often go awry, the heart has a mind of its own, and the greatest love is unscripted. Contains mature themes.

Good story...

Chaz takes his own sweet time to open up ... the repetition of his feelings could have been skipped! Other than that loved the book! Loved Chaz blurting out at wrong time!
Narrator:
I’m not a fan of Joel L’s voice. his variation and dialogue delivery is good.

not as exciting as Gabe and Josh

liked it a lot, more physical discription of Kyle and Chaz would be great way to engage more in the. story

Great book!

Great characters, great story. lots of sexual tension and so sweet. I like the quilt banter, the way it's written. I liked it all.

My least favorite trope

Miscommunication is not my fav, but I still enjoyed it. Joel Leslie did a great job.

not the worst

Its not that bad just beware there is small town fodder and fatophobia. If you don't mind that, you'll be fine.

Good story

While the story was okay, I just wasnt blown away by anything. I didn't feel any real excitement. Don't get me wrong, I was happy for Kyle and Chaz to get their HEA, but just didn't feel that spark.

Bad Narration

That book is grating. Someone should tell the narrator that the ’80s called. They want their overly dramatic gay guys back.
I’m looking for a print version of this story.

Mostly a Winner

The Road to Blissville Srs appears to be the sequel to the Curl Up and Dye Srs by AN Walker. Except that the more books I read in CUAD, it became clear that things were happening with the secondary characters that should probably ALREADY have been read. Indeed, when I reached the Christmas Book in CUAD, it went PAST obvious to (let’s say) spoilers as to what had occurred with the other characters since a certain point in Jazz and Gabe’s life.

This wasn’t an issue in the sense that I purchased the full series of both series named, in both print and Audible, but I felt that maybe it would have been helpful to have a list of books in the order that they should be read. Theoretically they are all SA Bks, but they are much better read in order as a full Srs (like a season on tv) and perhaps there IS a list of the books in the order I should read them that I missed. I would highly recommend doing so (I imagine a Google search would pull this up.)

Obviously, I very much enjoy Aimee Nicole Walker’s style of writing or I wouldn’t own 26 print bks, not counting the Audible books. I generally give 5* reviews to almost every single book she writes. The storyline’s are intriguing, the characters are unique, the writing is excellent, the sex scenes are hot (boiling, combustible!!) so there had to be a reason I rated two of three ratings to 4, instead of 5.

SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT

Okay. You’ve been warned. I felt as if Chaz and Kyle had the same problem crop up again and again and again and again and I (personally) found it grating. After a certain point, Chaz’ reluctance to tell Kyle about his deception became irritating to the point where I lost much respect for Kyle for continuing to go after the man. Chaz was acting like a complete shit (again, just IMO) and I wish Kyle had decided that Chaz wasn’t worth this much trouble. And clearly Chaz’ character lost much in his “should I, I can’t do this...” repetitive thought process every time he saw the vet.

The thing is, Walker likes her characters to be soulmates or OTL such that you can’t give up on them bc, they are supposed to be “endgame”. With Gabe and Josh, I could see where it made sense for them to keep trying, bc even tho they had problems, they were both immensely attracted to the other; they both wished to BE with the other one (Altho Jazz was scared by the concept based on previous life experiences) and there was reason to believe they would end up together bc Gabe was not always the one making the first move.

With Kyle and Chaz, I felt that the more Chaz screwed with Kyle’s head, the less I wanted them together and the more I wished another character would appear with whom Kyle could start up a healthy relationship. Ultimately the issues were worked out, but I felt it was done all at the expense of Kyles dignity and self respect.

However, it’s not as if I was so horrified the rating went down to three. Walker is too good an author for that to happen. I simply wish the book had been written somewhat differently so that Kyle received a individual who treated him right from the beginning. But c’est la vie. I still greatly enjoyed it!

Laughable!

I am a female gamer who has played Worlds of Warcraft since it’s inception and almost the only thing she got right about its mechanics and gameplay was that it is a social online game. Everything else was hogwash!

If you’re going to use something as a plot device at least do your research. It’s free to play for the first 20 levels. Take a page from your character and actually play so you can sound knowledgeable!

Putting aside my annoyance, the book wasn’t bad. It wasn’t totally good either but if you are looking for some well written MM sex scenes this has it. Just don’t expect a whole lot in the way of well written plot.

Love the story but...

Hate the narrator! Sorry, I’m sure he’s a nice guy but that faux ‘British’ accent he puts on at times and the overall over the top overdone theatrical manner of narrating is a total turn off for me! I have this book on Kindle, read it many times because I love the story line, so I figured I get it on Audible then I can listen to it while going down the road. Yeah... can’t even finish listening to it, it’s that off putting to me. Maybe get Aiden Snow, Nick J. Russo or Greg Boudreaux to narrate the next ones please!?
