Publisher's summary

One night with Reeve Hale wasn't enough. I knew it when I kissed him, I knew it when I slept with him, and I was certain of it when I walked out of his motel room the very next day.

So when the shy, gorgeous man is introduced as our newest employee at Vino and Veritas, I can't help but conjure up all the ridiculous ways to convince him to repeat that unforgettable night. Like asking him to be my fake boyfriend at my sister's upcoming wedding.

Only, I didn't expect him to say yes.

Playing pretend shouldn't feel this real. Especially when Reeve is planning on leaving Vermont after the summer.

We agreed to one night. We negotiated a fake relationship. But I'm the one who broke our terms. I wasn't supposed to fall in love and he was never supposed to be so unforgettable.

Contains mature themes.

Reeve and Oz!

I was excited to finally read Oz's book! I was not disappointed at all! It was great to have not only Tim Paige but also Cooper North?! *Chef's kiss*

A Must Listen

The first time an audio book has made me cry… great listen! The type of feel good love we want to believe in.

Good story. Good narration.

I liked the rhythm of the author's writing. The characters were wonderful. The conflict was fairly innocuous, but I was curious to see how things would end. The next time I am looking for a feel good romances, I will certainly consider books by Marley Valentine and narrations by Cooper North and Tim Paige.

A second chance for Oz!

A one night stand, turns into romance. I liked Oz and Reeve’s story. It’s sweet and sometimes frustratingly angsty but lovely and deserving of a happy ending.

Loved it!

I love this series so much! Working my way through all the entwined series of the True North world. Another great addition to the family. Oz is one of my favorite supporting characters in several of the other stories, so I was excited to get to his book. Completely lived up to my expectations. This my third book by this author and enjoyed them all. Can’t wait to get the next in the series.

Quick ending

Oz took him back so easily after being hurt like that, good for him. The ending was so abrupt. Too many authors finish the story as soon as they get together officially like they are incapable of writing happy scenes where there aren’t any background problems or doubts in the relationship between the main characters

reeve

Reeve's character is so weak. he has so many insecurities, it becomes annoying about half way through. the other drama feels contrived. especially the reasons they don't pursue a relationship. the plot needed more misunderstandings. author did a fair amount of over explaining and does so in the characters voice about things the character wouldn't or shouldn't know, which feels like the narrators voice coming through the character. like Reeve will think about Oz's feelings, but they haven't talked about that or demonstrated that so how would he know. finally the clichés abound. it's like everyday the author spun a wheel of clichés and whatever it landed in was written into the plot or the dialog.

despite all that, I finished the book. but will be reluctant to read another by this author.

Wanted to like this BUT

the actions of several characters throughout the book, including the ending, left a slimy feeling in my head.

The writing was effective enough for me to enjoy the main characters, even when they said one thing and did another *through the happily ever after.*

However, here were some issues for me: the equivalent of outing someone was characterized as “saving the day,” a scene involving ganging up on a family member and pressuring them *right after that person expresses how harmful that kind of behavior has been to them,* friends causally betraying trust or guilt-tripping others, equating manipulation to familial ‘love’ as long as it isn’t done by parents, yeah, well, that’s disgusting to me. I’m not sure how such erratic supporting characters can be shown doing horrible things, having a couple lines *telling* the readers it’s a good thing even when it’s exactly what hurt the characters just a few pages before, sorry, I don’t buy it. It’s hard to build up issues, point them out as bad and then excuse them when done by other characters.

*Instantly* forgiving people who have been awful to you for years, forcefully putting down your choices, your personality, your employment etc.? That’s another NO, for me anyhow. I can believe a lot in order to enjoy an escapist book. This book? No. I wanted to, I truly did.

For all I know it won’t bother you. Not all romances are written about heathy behavior. (Understatement.)

I wouldn’t bother writing a review if I hadn’t enjoyed the main characters. I did wait a LONG time for the dynamics to stop being unpleasant. It’s not the same as a slow burn to me. This is more than angst in my eyes, it’s as if betrayal is fine, and wow, the whole issue of trust and sharing important secrets without permission isn’t acknowledged as so close to the every day concept of *outing someone* you claim to love. That’s what left me feeling slimy.

Anyhow. There’s the V&V world, which was nice enough. There’s pining and hot sex. *I still wish it didn’t leave me feeling like being horrible and untrustworthy was condoned for no believable reason.*

I won’t be looking for more works by this author.
