A Great Resource For Parents Of Teens With Autism

I have several family members who have been diagnosed with high-functioning autism, and this book has served as an amazing guide to help me with them when interacting with them. The strategies in this guide are super helpful and effective. I wish I had this book years ago to help. I like the fact that it is a workbook and is easy to use. Unfortunately, most parents don’t know what to do when their kids or even teens are diagnosed with this, and this book is a beacon of hope for them. I highly recommend this book.

High Functioning

I found this book to be very useful. The authors goes into providing useful information from the point of view of a parent and the point of view of a teacher. The book also gives ideas as to how to tackle or approach difficult conversations with the this age group particularly in the are of sex education and self identity. These topics are difficult for any parent but its a bit more challenging for parents that have children with autism; I felt that the author understood that. The is also a section where the author speaks directly to the young age group in order to help them see what is proper or expected behavior when wanting to understand how to interact with others in different social conversations and in a variety of social scenarios.

the workbook section was invaluable

This book is jam packed with advice and guidance on how to raise a teen on the spectrum. The workbook section at the end was invaluable for my son. Understanding on and off topic conversations is a real struggle for him. The multiple-choice questions provided an easy and enjoyable way for him to practice these essential social skills which most young adults on the spectrum struggle with! The authors stories about her son are thread throughout the book which highlight how much this Mom just gets it! I found the chapter on being 'neurodiverse and rocking' incredibly inspiring—I even shared some of its content with my school’s PTA to promote inclusion!
A superb listen – I would highly recommend.
