Story
Tired of the pace and noise of life near London and longing for a better place to raise their young children, Mary J. MacLeod and her husband, George, encountered their dream while vacationing on a remote island in the Scottish Hebrides. Enthralled by its windswept beauty, they soon were the proud and startled owners of a near-derelict croft house - a farmer’s stone cottage - on “a small acre” of land. Mary assumed duties as the island’s district nurse.

Story
The “mountain men” were the hunters and trappers who fiercely strode the Rocky Mountains in the early to mid-1800s. They braved the elements in search of the skins of beavers and other wild animals, to sell or barter for goods. The lifestyle of the mountain men could be harsh, existing as they did among animals, and spending most of their days and nights living and camping out in the great unexplored wilds of the Rockies.

Informative and fascinating
Vietnamese culture is so much different than mine. It is so easy to misunderstand others or have them misunderstand me. But this book was helpful and eye-opening! I feel like I understand so much more of the unsaid things that everyone else there already knows. This book didn’t just make me feel like I would fit in better, but it was also fascinating. I’ve always loved how unique cultures can be and this book showcased some of the most interesting and beautiful Vietnamese customs. My favorite was the chapter about festivals. It sounds so exciting!

Very informative!
This audiobook has been a huge help as I learn about Vietnamese culture, which is perfect since I've been thinking about living there for a while. It covers everything from family and marriage norms to religious practices and even local taboos. I really liked how each section starts with a creative metaphor that makes the topics come alive. It's also been great learning to pronounce important Vietnamese words properly, understanding body language, and getting to know traditions like Têt. If you're planning to connect deeply with Vietnam, this book is a must-have!

Review of Vietnamese etiquette for travelers.
The audiobook gave me a great understanding of Vietnamese etiquette. Generally, avoid loud arguments, making a scene, berating others for mistakes, and making others feel ashamed. Dress conservatively and keep your body covered. Respect elders—these are wonderful values of humility, restraint, and modesty. Including practical tips and real-life scenarios further enhances the audiobook's value as a guidebook for cultural immersion. Whether offering gifts to hosts or addressing elders with proper deference, the author provides actionable advice to help readers confidently navigate common social situations. Additionally, incorporating anecdotes and personal experiences adds a human touch, making the exploration of Vietnamese etiquette engaging and relatable. It's a great book to listen to and understand Vietnamese values and etiquette.
