About this listen

This title will be streaming in Audible Plus through September 1st, 2021.

A tournament approaches.

All around the world, great clans and sects prepare their disciples to fight against one another in a competition of young Underlords.

Even the Blackflame Empire is drawn in, but their youth are not strong enough to compete.

Yet.

To temper and test them, the Akura clan throws all the elites of the Blackflame Empire into a lush training ground. There, training will be much faster and more rewarding.

Lindon and his team are only too eager to milk everything they can out of this opportunity, even when doing so means making new enemies.

The only winners will be those who reach Underlord.

That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. Iteration 110 grows even larger and deeper

Will Wight and Travis Baldree continue to impress me. Wight seems to have a unique gift for writing non-human characters in a way that makes them very relatable and enjoyable. This is in addition to his gift for writing human characters, even those who think, feel and behave like gods. Baldree, reminiscent of voice actor Dee Bradley Baker in his range, is able to wonderfully recreate a huge cast of characters spread across different ages, sexes, species, levels of sentience and sanity. He effortlessly captures the bizarre and nuanced lunacy of the self proclaimed janitor extraordinaire Eithan, who uses his near omniscience primarily to irritate others and perform absurd practical jokes, when he isn't tearing at the fabric of the heavens with his machinations. Baldree is equally adept at capturing the ancient, sometimes crazed with overwhelming dragon power, sacred turtle Orthos, whose role in the story only raises my expectations for book 7. Wight continues to be a author whose worlds capture my imagination and, though Wight is an excellent narrator in his own right, Baldree's unique talents take the marvelous places, creatures, people and fights to new heights.

better and better

with every book this series continues to improve. I enjoy the dry humor, the narration, and just about every aspect of this book.

Satisfying

An excellent followup to Ghostwater. It succeeded in pushing the story alone quite nicely. At no point can I say I didn't enjoy this book. Oh man, and that ending.. Jezz, it was a roller-coaster. At one point about midway through I cried like a baby. That bit was a bit scary considering I was driving a big rig at the time, but hey, what can ya do.

Tldr: buy, listen, enjoy, feel, and above all lament the fact we'll most likely have to wait a depressingly long time for the next book, let alone the Audible version.

Underlord Rules!

Ghostwater remains the most impressive installment of the Cradle Series so far but this is absolutely an exciting and nail-biting addition to the action packed saga of Lindon and friends!

Good characters with a Manga Style. Book 6

Not all but many of the Manga stories have characters that are overlooked or considered worthless. Then the character of the story proves them wrong.

What makes these stories enjoyable could be the path they take, the characters, or both. This story has both.

I should write more details but I listened to one book after the other. Like one big thick book. Book 6, I am enjoying the series and I have currently listened up to book 7.

I bought this book for the bloopers

The book itself is just a bonus. Travis Baldree is the best narrator I have listened to, and his ability to give each character a unique tone of voice, AND adjust their unique tone based on their feeling in the scene is spectacular. Add onto Will Wight's fantastic writing, great sense of humor, and bloopers at the end of the book? Practically a natural treasure itself.
