About this listen

Ever since Prue McKeel returned home from the Impassable Wilderness after rescuing her brother from the malevolent Dowager Governess, life has been pretty dull. School holds no interest for her, and her new science teacher keeps getting on her case about her dismal test scores and daydreaming in class. Her mind is constantly returning to the verdant groves and sky-tall trees of Wildwood, where her friend Curtis still remains as a bandit-in-training.

But all is not well in that world. Dark assassins with mysterious motives conspire to settle the scores of an unknown client. A titan of industry employs inmates from his orphanage to work in his machine shop, all the while obsessing over the exploitation of the Impassable Wilderness. And in what will be their greatest challenge yet, Prue and Curtis are thrown together again to save themselves and the lives of their friends, and to bring unity to a divided country. But in order to do that, they must go under Wildwood.

In Under Wildwood, Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis reveal new dimensions of the epic fantasy-adventure series begun with the critically acclaimed, best-selling Wildwood.

The story; a great second book in the series

I liked the author narrating more than the narrator of the first book... but found him at times to be a bit monotone. I love this story and series though!

Loved it

This is a really good book. Great plot, characters, and themes. I struggled a little with book 1, but taking them in order is important. Colin Meloy is a little monotonic but he obviously knows the book. I'm hooked and moving on to book 3.

Great Cliff Hanger

I enjoyed the first book, but took a little break before getting to this one because the first one was pretty complete. But, it’s fun to dive back into this magical world… I actually missed the female narrator for a little bit, but got used to and enjoyed hearing the author voice his own book. The final chapters really were riveting and I can’t wait to listen to the final book.

Meloy: a Woodian, no doubt.

It had been about three years since I read the first book, and yet, Meloy's storytelling transported me to Wildwood again with seemingly no interruption. While the book seems rather long for a young audience, the narrative is so thorough and thrilling that its hanging conclusion does not leave the reader disappointed, only slightly unsettled -- excited for the final book.

As for the narration, I would purchase anything read by Colin Meloy... well, except maybe Jane Eyre.

For young readers or readers young in spirit.

Great book

I love this series. I enjoyed the first book by audio as well. The reader was a woman that was clearly enjoying the book as well. I was skeptical of hearing the author read it. Especially since we enjoy his music as well. He was fantastic and I can wait to start the next book.

Good story needs a better reader

the reader for the first book in the series was significantly better which is probably what you get when a professional actress reads instead of the author. the change in narrator was actually so jarring that I had to stop listening to the story for a while and give myself a break between book 1 and 2. my primary complaint with the narrator / author is that he reads the book in such a calm soothing tone like you would read a child to sleep with but it's a difficult to follow what should be faxed action paste scenes. but once I got further into the story probably in 2 chapter 2 or 3 I stop being so furious at the author reading their own book and just went along with the story
