About this listen

The last man of a lost cause

On the jungle planet Red Eye, a lone legionnaire fights for survival. His Legion SOG team, sent here to put an end to the Lizzaar H8 trade, was abandoned by the House of Reason, and one by one his team members have been killed by the Lizzaar. Now only he, Sergeant Spike Riggs, remains.

Riggs valiantly continues the mission, working with disgruntled zhee colonists to do whatever damage he still can. But the Lizzaar own the jungles, the planet, the sector of space.

Until Tyrus Rechs arrives.

The bounty hunter must hearken back to his days as a Legion general as he once again leads his soldiers through combat. Together with Riggs and the zhee insurgents, he has a chance to bring the Lizzaar H8 trade crashing down ... if he can survive the three deadly assassins hot on his trail.

The odds are daunting, the mission almost impossible. The situation calls for ... uncommon valor.

As usual great entertainment

The quite over-obvious cliffhanger with the left over assassins and stolen ship was quite unnecessary and could have been wrapped up in this book though. Feels like milking it a bit - smells of Star Wars under Disney

Not much of Tyrus in his own book

I’m disappointed that less than half the book actually followed Tyrus. I hope you’re ready to hear spikes whole story.

Love all of these books

Hardest part is waiting for the next book. Some of my favorite characters and the coolest ship the Obsidian Crow.

The Title Speaks True

The SOG operators, the many unfortunate events in the plot (the Tennar deserved better), seeing things through the eyes of The T-Rex, and the relentless Lizzar enemies and curious assassins all combined to present a perfect parable of life itself. I loved it all and can't wait for the next installment. It is good to be reminded of what it means to be men, in the truest sense.

PS: Like I said in my review of the previous book, Mephisto's Game, Marc Vietor will grow on you. I believe he did exceptionally well. Jason and Nick only work the best.

Let him cook

At first I was annoyed to not have ray porter. However as other reviews have mentioned Marc Vietor is actually a very good narrator. Once used to him I thoroughly enjoyed listening. Will happily grab any new ones with him narrating.

Story was of course excellent, I wouldn’t expect any different from Jason and Nick. One of my favorite things about GE is all of these books not necessarily related to the main story arc but great nonetheless.

new direction

Rright now I don't mind the new direction away from mostly self contained nature of the previous books. I would still like to see more.

They’re back to what soured me on Galaxy’s Edge

“I don’t think anyone’s going to read this.”
So thinks Sgt Riggs as he records how his entire unit died and we trudge with him as he soldiers on alone, waging a one-man guerilla war against a faceless enemy. There were no ups and downs, only Sgt Riggs carrying on with a thankless mission. Rechs doesn’t figure until halfway thru the book and even then, it’s little more than Rechs acknowledging Riggs’ dedication.

“Operating on bubblegum and baling wire.”
If only Riggs had pulled a MacGyver, entertaining with strategy and explosions.
If only Rech swooped in and they became an army of two.
If only there was dialogue, character development, or a villain to chew the scenery.

“The House always wins”
I got thru book 4 of the Galaxy’s Edge series before I realized it was just a never ending rehash of the same story. Another planet, another lecture on military morality, another description of the primitive natives, and of course, another dozen descriptions of guerilla battles.

What I liked about the Contracts and Terminations series was that Rechs became a bounty hunter and each book had a standalone caper. Sadly, by book 3 it was like the authors were too lazy to think up new bounty hunting plots and reverted back to the military formula.

“The happiest place on Earth.”
Here, there’s recycling of past stories, recaps of Rech’s life, and jarring references to Disneyland and the Star Spangled Banner. Worse, what little bounty hunting/assassin storyline exists is little more than click baiting, rehashing the previous book and barely moving the needle for the next book. There is no mystery solved here, nor a climax, nor any huge victory. This is just another book that serves to string us along for as many books as we’ll purchase. I’m done with the series.
