2022 Kirkus Reviews Best Books of the Year, Long-listed

Tautly wound and expertly crafted, Two Nights in Lisbon is a riveting thriller about a woman under pressure, and how far she will go when everything is on the line. The audiobook is read by AudioFile Golden Voice and Audie Award winning narrator January LaVoy.

“I defy anyone to read the first twenty pages of this breakneck novel, then try to put it down for five minutes. This is smart suspense at its very best.”—#1 New York Times bestselling author John Grisham

You think you know a person . . .

Ariel Pryce wakes up in Lisbon, alone. Her husband is gone—no warning, no note, not answering his phone. Something is wrong.

She starts with hotel security, then the police, then the American embassy, at each confronting questions she can’t fully answer: What exactly is John doing in Lisbon? Why would he drag her along on his business trip? Who would want to harm him? And why does Ariel know so little about her new—much younger—husband?

The clock is ticking. Ariel is increasingly frustrated and desperate, running out of time, and the one person in the world who can help is the one person she least wants to ask.

With sparkling prose and razor-sharp insights, bestselling author Chris Pavone delivers a stunning and sophisticated international thriller that will linger long after the surprising final moment.

Editorial Review

A solid ending!
While listening to Two Nights in Lisbon, I struggled a bit with what exactly was happening and why, but once the threads started unraveling, I was on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the premise of the novel: a wife and her husband travel internationally for a business trip, and then one morning he’s missing from the hotel. Ariel, the wife, is understandably hysterical, especially when no one takes her seriously. To be fair, he was missing only a few hours. Her fear, however, is valid, considering that she didn’t really know his occupation or what business he was in Lisbon for. As she tries to figure out who and where her husband is, listeners get glimpses into Ariel’s past, which may give insight into how she ended up in this situation. In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed this slow-burn thriller. — Nicole R.

The narration is incredible, which makes the story very compelling. A thriller whose ending I had it predicted.

This book was an easy escape. It was not an edge of your seat thriller, but it kept my interest the whole time and while I predicted some outcomes, others were a total surprise. I enjoyed it.

An easy fun listen

Once again Chris weaves characters that feel real enough to invest in. The dialogue is engaging, the scenes come to life in the minds eye. The mystery and suspense never stop. Narration is excellent. Thanks for keeping it smart and entertaining. More please!!!

Soooo good

I was all in on this books, slow start build up…until….this horrible scene of r***, I just knew a man wrote that scene because how could he know from the women’s perspective. He was off by a long shot. Then it changed how I saw the rest of the book, male savior in the end. Ugh.

Trigger warning!!!! Written by a man….zero women would describe r**e in the way he did

Ariel is angry at men and at people with wealth and power; I felt like the author belabored the point. I usually really like this reader, but her angry tone wore me out too. Maybe it was the only way she could read the story. I was so glad when this book was over.

So many twists and turns. You have to listen to believe it. I was glad the bad guy got what was coming to him. The narrator is superb! Love her.

Amazing!

Amazing story with more twists and turns than I thought possible. great writing. it definitely lives up to all of its recommendations.

Excellent

The plot was fine but the characters were hard to follow. The changes in locations, circumstances and characters were confusing. The narrator did not vary her voice enough to alert the reader to any changes occurring so the reader is left wondering who is talking and where they are in time or location.

Avid reader
