About this listen

Two days, one year apart. Four lives changed for ever.

It's Una Darling's 17th birthday, but nobody feels much like celebrating. It's been exactly a year since the tragic death of her father, Finn, and the people he left behind have been doing their best to get on with things. But it hasn't been easy.

Daphne is tired of sadness, of mourning the long life she and her husband were meant to share, but doesn't quite know how to get past it. And she can't seem to get through to her stepdaughter - they barely speak anymore, so Daphne knows nothing of the unexpected solace Una has found, or of the risk she's about to take.

When Una fails to appear for a birthday tea with her family, Daphne suddenly realises how large the distance between them has grown. Will she be given the chance to make things right?

"Reading Roisin Meaney's novels is like 'sitting down with a good friend over a cup of tea'." (Irish Mail on Sunday)

Grabs the heart

I’ve listened to most of Roisin Meaney’s books. Her observations of characters are so keen. Are they perfect? No. Do they make mistakes? Yes. But they are real and compelling. All of them. This story is told from different points of view and they are all worthwhile. I found myself caring for ALL the characters. This is a story about grieving and how we all deal with it differently. It’s a story about the mistakes we make and how we deal with them. It’s a story that grabbed me and didn’t release me.

Another wonderful read

I just can’t get enough of Roisin Meaney books. I get lost inside them and can picture myself there watching all the lives inside. I haven’t read one yet that I didn’t like and this one is no different. Once again I didn’t want it to end. I wanted to see what happened next. The narration couldn’t be better. Her voice wraps the story around you and together they take you to another place.

NOT HER BEST WORK!

I love this author but this is story going no particular place and ends there. I am left wondering what the point of the story truly is. Seems like something written to fulfill a contract; if you read this story don't let this paint a picture of the author's talent as most of her books are amazing, but this one is a lump. In one word, BORING.
