About this listen

The daring members of the Stud Club are reckless gamblers and no strangers to risk - until love raises the stakes in Twice Tempted by a Rogue.

Luck is a double-edged sword for brooding war hero Rhys St. Maur. His death wish went unanswered on the battlefield, while fate allowed the murder of his good friend in the elite gentlemen’s society known as the Stud Club. Out of options, Rhys returns to his ancestral home on the moors of Devonshire, expecting anything but a chance at redemption in the arms of a beautiful innkeeper who dares him to take on the demons of his past - and the sweet temptation of a woman’s love.

Meredith Maddox believes in hard work, not fate, and romance isn’t part of her plan. But when Rhys returns, battle-scarred, world-weary, and more dangerously attractive than ever, the lovely widow is torn between determination and desire. As a deep mystery and dangerous smugglers threaten much more than their passionate reckoning, Meredith discovers that she must trust everything to a wager her heart placed long ago.

Not the best Tessa Dare

I have read/listened to all of Ms. Dare's books but this one was slow going. The very few steamy scenes were alright but not as good as they normally are in her books. Storyline wasn't bad but didn't keep my interest at all times.

Not A Chore At All..

Pleasant book to listen to but obviously a second in the trilogy. Narration was fine and easy to listen to. I hope the third book is available soon!

A little tired of Rosalyn

I know she is wonderful but I’m a bit tired of her. All the heroes sound exactly the same. it was funny to read Tessa Dare and have it sound more like Julie Quinn or Mary Balogh. Story pretty good. Worth a listen. I think I will read the third one. not quite connected enough to the first one and the mystery wasn’t exciting.

A good solid listen...steamy & centered on the H&H

I see after reading the second book in the series...the books are very centered on the relationship between the H & H. I personally like that. Dare does a good job building the relationship. There isn't much more of a side story...there is one....but it doesn't overpower the relationship side of the story. But I will say...there was quite a twist near the end.

I liked this book. It was good...not earth shattering...but good. The sex scenes are pretty steamy.

Meredith is a great character. Dare seems to be pretty good at writing her female characters.

Much, much better!

I enjoyed this story more than the first. I believe it was because there were times when it was really intense. The women were strong and the men were handsome rogues. As usual, I wish the ending took the reader farther into the future. I like to know the fate of the characters a year or two later. But that’s just me! The trilogy is worth your time,

Great Author, Great narrator, Boring Story

I love Tessa Dare. Duchess Deal is probably one of, if not, THE best of the genre. And Rosalyn Landor is a top-shelf narrator. But, this one was a slog.
The story isn’t BAD, it’s just crazy boring. In short, he sees a girl and instantly wants to marry her. And she’s like, “great. I’ve actually been in love with you since I was a child.”
The rest is just housework and shopping. Almost no real conflict anywhere in the story. (There is, but it’s weak)
Good for them, bad for the reader.
I can usually polish off one of these in an afternoon. This one took me nearly a month. I just didn’t care.
It’s a trilogy, so you’ve gotta just power through it. But, maybe listen at high speed.

AN AVERAGE REGENCY ROMANCE

Now I love an arrogant Rogue story who are always changed by the one woman he feels differently about and she tames his wicked ways (Mmmm delish). But with this book? well, I really don't know why it's got 'Rogue' in the title because Rhys is a scarred and battle weary Lord who has come home to rebuild his life however the demons of his childhood always haunts him as he walks through life and now they're also present as he revisits the ashes of his ancestral home. When he arrives he sees beautiful Meredith and 'instinct' takes over.... especially when he finds out she's a widow.

Meredith is a strong independent character who owns the local Inn and is trying to 'upscale' the look despite her brawling patrons. Her Dad worked for the family in the Stables and, even as a child, she has always been attracted to Rhys so when he walks into her Inn it brings back good and bad memories and stirs up her passions too. Despite secrets, Rhys suddenly has a new purpose in life - to start over, to rebuild his home, to refresh the village and to get married to Meredith but she has different plans..... and secrets of her own.

A nice, instant-connection type of romance with likeable characters but did it hold my attention.... sadly not. It was just all ok, nice, a bit of angst, a few dramas, a couple of surprises along the way, some sex and a bitter-sweet romance that gets tested by the truth. R.L.'s narration was, as always, spot on but not even she could stir much enthusiasm to this listen.

Worth a credit? Sadly No, I think I'll leave the Trilogy here.

Romance Factor 1000

I always love Tessa Dare, but this is by far one of the most romantic stories in her catalogue IMHO. The final scene had me in all my feels - 10/10 recommend.

Good story terrible narrator

Why change the narrator used in book one? She was so good. I am having a hard time keeping up with the story.

Dark and heavy

3.5 stars. This is darker and angstier than what I’m used to with Tessa’s later work. There's a lot of action, fights, sabotage, recollection of past abuses. While I appreciate the unusual widowed heroine, the push and pull between her and Rhys was a tad too much. Also, there’s no epilogue!
