Acerca de esta escucha

Twelve Years a Slave is the true story of Solomon Northup: born a free black man in New York State, and sold into slavery after being tricked in 1841.

Unable to convince anyone he is not a slave, Solomon spent 12 years in bondage, before finally being set free.

Northup’s memoir, recounting details of the slave markets and the harsh life on plantations, was used in the struggle to abolish slavery in the United States.

If you could sum up Twelve Years a Slave in three words, what would they be?

Anger - Sadness - Freedom

What did you like best about this story?

The book is done in a way that makes you understand, more than ever, the time in history that all this took place. Slavery is no more, thank GOD, its more about his strength, his resolution to get free, there are good people and bad people all over this world. Thank you for telling your story.

What about Tommie Earl Jenkins’s performance did you like?

The narrator was perfect!!! such

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Any additional comments?

Had looked forward to reading this novel and I was disappointed. Took me a long time to finish.

This narrative is heart wrenching. The tones, at times, seems quite dispassionate. I do think the book could have been far more gruesome if he had told the stories with all the details, but I doubt the book could have been printed in its time, if he had. This personalizes the findings of the Supreme Court that a black man had no rights, in this case, even if free. Now that I've read the book, I can finally see the film.

Important narrative, and not as gruesome as

I couldn't get into this book no matter how many times I tried. I would not recommend it.
