About this listen
As this political crisis plays out, Russia gains a new leader. Not just a president, but a new tsar, a signal to the world that the old, imperial Russia is back and plans to have her day. And in America, a mysterious killer, known only as Happy the Baker, brutally murders an innocent family and literally flattens the small Midwestern town they once called home. Just a taste, according to the new tsar, of what will happen if America does not back down.
Onto this stage must step Alex Hawke, espionage agent extraordinaire and the only man, both Americans and the Brits agree, who can stop the absolute madness born and bred inside the modern police state of Vladimir Putin's "New Russia".
Take another thrill ride with Alex Hawke.©2008 Brilliance Audio, Inc.; 2008 Ted BellListeners also enjoyed...

On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Story
A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, The Sun Also Rises introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.

Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake. So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave? Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

Time is running out for the two nations that once made up the former USA. Weakened by their division, both the Islamic republic and the Bible Belt are threatened by the expansionist dreams of the Atzlan Empire to the south, and their own intellectual decay engendered by their fundamentalist beliefs. The only solution is to reunite the two nations and regain its former glory, and there's only one way to do it, and only one man, Rakkim Epps, who can.

James Bondish!!
Main hero is able to do almost anything, but keep the love of his life alive. That is the only difference between him and James Bond(who always gets the girl) a little sappy with the love angle but wonderful narration and fun exciting plot.

Disappointing Effort
I am a true fan of Ted Bell. His writing style is good and his charater of Alex Hawke has always been entertaining. This was not his best effort and left me a little disappointed that this was the latest installment of the Pirate series.

The kind of book that will make you cancel plans to stay home and read (or listen to)!
Wow! This is the kind of book that will make you cancel plans to stay home and read (or listen to)!
I have never been a thriller spy novel reader, but this came up in a search so I decided to expand my literary horizons - and I was not disappointed! Now the rest of the series is on my list to read in the future.
If I must be stuck in a pandemic lock down and not able to travel abroad myself, at least I can experience different lands, work abroad, excitement, danger, romance, culture and luscious landscapes through this compelling and engaging novel! 5 out of 5 Stars from me!

Excellent Performance
The story starts off a bit slow, in my opinion. This is not the best in the 'Hawke' series. The second half was excellent, and even stirred some feelings! Narrator John Shea was fantastic, as usual. This will not be my last 'Hawke' novel, but I hope the next one carries more intensity along the length of the story, rather than just the end.

JAMES BOND MOVE OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A very pleasant surprise from an unfamiliar author. Put together an intelligent, handsome, wealthy, well bred englishman with an irresistible, american, wise cracking sidekick, and you have the makings for a terrific team. These two have all the global connections needed to get the job done-they can save the world while keeping us breathlessly entertained along the way. Beautifully written and narrated.
My only suggestion is that you read Assassin, Pirate then Tsar, in that order. I read Tsar first and although it did not really ruin the fun for me, I did realize I knew what would happen to certain characters ahead of time because these three books do have various threads carrying thru in each book.( I dont want to get anymore specific or I will ruin the stories for you.) This author has a vivid imagination. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Cant wait for the next Alex Hawke adventure. Thanks Mr Bell. Keep them coming!!

Intriguiging!
Who says only Rush Limbaugh could enjoy a good thriller? I'm a liberal democrat, veteran and someone who enjoys well-written fiction. I found Ted Bell's "Tsar" enjoyable, and also informative. I highly recommend.

Better than good.
There’s a lot going on. In this story there’s Hawke and a bunch of his friends, an evil genius and his evil deeds, plenty of action, some mysteries and spying, cool vehicles, love and humor, and heartbreak. The author and the narrator are both a a lot better than good at their craft. No more time for reviewing, I’ve got to get going on the next Ted Bell and Hawke story.
