About this listen
The IT management profession is not for the faint of heart. Anyone who has worked in this sector is familiar with the unique (and borderline impossible) challenge of trying to keep up with technological innovations while operating on a too-small budget and facing constant criticism for problems outside of your control. Truth From the Trenches passes on the hard-won leadership lessons that six-time CIO Mark Settle gained over years of working in IT management. Settle describes the key constituencies that an IT leader needs to influence, seduce, leverage, and manage to be successful. His practical recommendations will allow listeners to improve their organizational impact and accelerate their career advancement. In a sector where competency stems not from formal certification but on-the-job learning, Truth from the Trenches is a valuable and unique resource that is based on Settle's deep experience working in IT in a variety of industries. By applying Settle's strategies, IT workers will be able to avoid common pitfalls, save themselves from wasting time and effort on hopeless initiatives, and survive the trenches of everyday IT challenges.

The greatest threat we face is not robots replacing us, but our reluctance to reinvent ourselves. We live in an age of wonder: cars that drive themselves, devices that anticipate our needs, and robots capable of everything from advanced manufacturing to complex surgery. Automation, algorithms, and AI will transform every facet of daily life, but are we prepared for what that means for the future of work, leadership, and creativity?

How can we apply technology to drive business value? For years we've been told that the performance of software delivery teams doesn't matter - that it can't provide a competitive advantage to our companies. Through four years of groundbreaking research to include data collected from the State of DevOps reports conducted with Puppet, Dr. Nicole Forsgren, Jez Humble, and Gene Kim set out to find a way to measure software delivery performance - and what drives it - using rigorous statistical methods. This book presents both the findings and the science behind that research, making the information accessible for listeners to apply in their own organizations.

Cybersecurity involves people, policy, and technology. Yet most books and academic programs cover only technology. Hence the implementation of cybersecurity as a people powered perpetual innovation and productivity engine is not done. People think they can buy cybersecurity as a product when in fact the discipline is the modern practice of digital business strategy. People also equate cybersecurity with information security or security alone. However, security is a state, while cybersecurity is a process.

The IT world view, when viewed from the top of the hierarchy.
Held my attention less than half of the time. A male writer choosing a female professional speaker, telling the story (or ideas and experiences) of a female IT leader, is controversial in a male dominated profession. I get that. But couldn't familiarize with it, so the book got boring quite fast and my mind wandered in my working environment, instead of focusing on it.
But there are great lessons to be learnt from the book, if summarized.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
