About this listen

Alone in an unfamiliar country where her noble title is useless. Everything she believes in is shattered. Driven by desperation, she risks it all to return to the one man whose love promises to be true.

Lady Victoria Haverwood, beloved daughter of a widowed Earl, has spent years at a fashionable boarding school longing for the day she can come home to finally take her place as mistress of Wrenbrooke. But when she becomes the target of a murderous plot, her idyllic plan is swiftly turned upside down.

Nicholas Saberton, an accomplished American Naval Captain, is commissioned to escort the earl and his daughter safely across the ocean to the lively shores of Savannah, Georgia. Pledged to protect her with his life, Nicholas is determined to remain immune to Victoria’s innocent charm. Focused on building his shipping empire, the Haverwood heiress and her quirky relatives become an irresistible diversion.

Danger shadows them. Soon the repercussions of her father’s past ensnare Victoria in a web of deception that threatens to consume her. Only her love for Nicholas will give her strength to discover the truth. But will it be too late?

A Delightful Listen!

Every chance I had, I was listening to this engaging story. It was so easy to listen to Austenne Grey’s voice. She did excellent with the distinct character voices. She also did a fantastic job matching her pace to the action of the wonderful tale. I thoroughly enjoyed the quotes that introduced each chapter leading into this romantic read. The wonderful characters had trials to face leading to unexpected choices and lessons. As the suspense increased, I realized that although I wanted to know the resolution, I didn’t want this story to end. Fortunately, I realized this book is just the first of a series. I was given a copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

4.45/5 Stars True Nobility by Lori Bates Wright

Narrated by Austenne Grey

Summary:

Victoria Haverwood and her father, the Earl of Wrenbrooke, go to America to keep her safe. Her father contracts Nicholas Saberton to bring them both across the ocean from England. But trouble follows.

Additional Comments:

- Don’t read the blurb. It pretty much spells out the entire book.

- Plot 4/5: It’s fun even with the super far-fetched parts. I typically find these kinds of books (Christian historical romance) terribly boring, but this one had enough action to keep things somewhat interesting at least the second half of the book. There were even a few nice twists.

- Characters 4/5: The earl’s not very likable start to finish, which is weird because he’s all the girl has so she adores him. Victoria’s somewhat painfully naïve, but a nice enough lady. I liked her aunt and cousin. The villains are cookie cutter, but they function properly.

- Humor: There was one section where Tori’s aunt was trying to explain marital relations to her that was downright hilarious. Nicholas and his family have a little lift to them.

- Christian integration 3/5: Kind of superfluous. If you’d just told me this was a “clean” romance, I’d have gotten exactly the same vibe from it. About the only thing that would nudge it toward Christian are random scripture verses thrown in as epigraphs. According to some definitions, this wouldn’t even qualify as Christian fiction because there’s no distinguishable character development that supports it, but that’s nitpicky.

- Narration 5/5: Austenne Grey put in a stellar performance. The voices of both male and female characters are distinguishable. Her British accent is distinct yet understandable.

- Not sure how this works with being book 1 in a series unless later titles key in on somebody else loosely connected to the MCs. Not sure why this one focuses ¾ on Tori and ¼ on Nicholas if it’s about the Saberton Legacy, but my guess is that books 2 and so on have to do with his brothers.

Conclusion:

Intriguing historical fiction with fun characters, nice plot twists, and superb narration.

Loved this story & narrator!! Can't wait for more!

I have both the kindle version and the audio version of True Nobility, the first book I've encountered by Author Lori Bates Wright. I listened to the audio version and absolutely loved it! It was fantastic! The narrator was soooo good, and the story so compelling. I loved all the twists and turns, danger, and romance. If the second and third audio books were ready, I'd be snapping them right up. Now I have to decide if I am patient enough to wait, or if I want to get the kindle versions instantly. Truly this was a very enjoyable story with excellent narration! I can't wait for more!

A Journey worth Taking!

This is the first audible/story that I have listen to by this author and I have to say, I am anxious for all she has written!
Suspense, intrigue, romance and humor... what more can you ask for? Oh yes, a handsome American hero and a feisty English Lady heroine, with the first page starting off with a bang!

When Lord Haverwood received a note that he needed to take precautions because his daughter Victoria would be killed before her 20th birthday, he took action, Hiring Nicholas Saberton to take he and his daughter to America, was his next step.

I loved the banter and unexpected humorous statements between the characters. The voyage landed them in Savannah, Georgia at the house of Tori's aunt.

A journey of many twist and turns, danger and secrets that come forth very unexpectedly! The narrator overall did an excellent job and all I can say is I cannot wait to listen to book 2 of this exciting series!

A change of heart

This is an engaging story of mystery, compassion and it’s own kind of romance. One that takes time, and opportunities to develop. Victoria thinks she understands the world and thinks she has life in the palm of her hand because she is a well bred English woman from high society. Soon she will see things through new eyes and understanding.
I have throughly enjoyed this author’s work. In the past week I have devoured both books in this series. I’m seriously starving for sleep by choice, to happily be carried away to another time and place. It takes real talent to describe a scene to take the reader to that place without bogging down the story. Also to make the characters relatable and real. Someone to invest in. Wright has that talent! With that, she has full, engaging storylines to make the reader say “OK, just one more chapter…until it’s 2:30 in the morning and you’re letting a sigh out from pure contentment while at the same time, disappointed that there isn’t just a little more.
Listening to Austenne Grey read was sheer pleasure. She handles the accents and personalities well and brings the book to life with her talent. I can highly recommend the book, the author and the narrator and will to all my reading friends!

Delightful

What a delightful book. It is filled with adventure, romance, mystery, and humor. Victoria is trying to bring her culture into America and it is not a successful endeavor. Nicolas is enjoying her failing efforts all too much and finds teasing her is quite a pleasure for him. But little by little their relationship changes and little by little they each break down the walls of the other and they each begin to leave their past behind them. All of the characters are just great and each has a particular role to play in the plot.

The narrator is superb and brings the characters to life with great skill.

I requested this audio book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

A different world

This is my first time reading this author and I have to say I was thoroughly entertained. The narrator was good and brought the story to life. Lady Victoria can't wait to become the mistress of her home, Wrenbroke with her widow Father. Her Father is so upset at the attempt on her life, that he hired Captain Nicholas to escort them both from England to America, but the threats don't stop. Little did any of them know, that her Father's past is the cause of everything happening. Can they get to Victoria in time, before it is too late?
