About this listen

Everybody starts out somewhere. For Coyote Cal and Big Yap, famous heroes of the Weird West, it was Trouble on the Range: 30 episodes of action-packed mayhem written by a 15-year-old kid with way too much imagination (and free time), filled with enough plot twists to make your head spin.

When Jack Jones's ranch is overwhelmed by foul pests, he seeks out Coyote Cal and Big Yap for help. But our heroes run into their own trouble along the way, captured by a wicked fiend intent on taking over their 30-episode serial and making it his own. In the process, the author is also kidnapped, sending events spiraling out of control. As the plot unravels, unlikely allies must unite to save the day. Or something like that.

Old time movies

This audio brought back many memories. I knew the characters almost instantly. "Familiarity brings more interest."
The breaks on chapters were interesting and I kept on waiting for Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz. Radio commercials.
This was a fun no brainer.

Farce and Furious

Leave all expectations behind and just relax and listen to the ineptitude and a joyous mishmash of genres in hyperbolic and florid excess, clashing and clanging irreverently. Hope you have as much fun as I did!

Love letter to classic movies and old serials

I don't know how to describe this book. It starts super weird so you really just have to trust me when I say to stick with it. I promise it will get better and if not make sense, at least be entertaining.

The story is written in a serial style with each chapter being an episode and ending with "Stay tuned."

It's also an ode to classic Hollywood as well as a meta narrative on which the author himself is a main character.

I loved the narrator for this book. And to know why I need to tell you that this story features classic actors. So when Jimmy Stewart is speaking John Warren Hart sounds just like Jimmy Stewart. His John Wayne is okay and his Boggart is decent. But yes, I loved his range and ability to imitate these famous voices.

if you choose this story I encourage you to get the audiobook over the ebook.

Any fan of old black and white Westerns will enjoy this whimsical farce. And if you don't like Westerns then this story will make you wish you did.
