Reader Review

The reader's character voices are very clipped, to the point of irritation. Otherwise, great story.

Love everafter

I liked the motion of the book. It had one basic story with many little stories attached. They ran side by side. In the end they all connected and finished as one in the end.

Good

Was suspenseful , emotional, and heartbreaking. Wish Peter's and JP had more police time together.

Great story, performance was poorly modulated

What didn’t you like about Gene Engene’s performance?

His performance was fine, but the post production volume modulation was painful. Adjusting the volume on my device to hear the softest spoken words made the loudest words painfully loud. And this high/low range would happen in the same sentence. And would happen constantly. It was so annoying, I'm hesitant to try any other books with this narrator.

Any additional comments?

The story was great, as usual. J.A. Jance writes a great story, unfortunately, the post production made the reading unpleasant to listen (but we did finish the book!).

Love combination of Jance and Engene

Story becomes alive. Love the author and the reader. Feel like I know the characters. Gene made the book talk.

Jance Wrote Another Good Mystery

What did you love best about Trial by Fury?

What I liked best about Trial by Fury was that it was only an 8 hour book, an easy listen and had a good plot.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trial by Fury?

When Peters went missing and his two children needed the truth and assurance that their dad was being looked for. Peters friend's immediately took responsibility for the children. Ames, Beaumonts lawyer and friend of both men, knew that Peters did not have a clause in his will concerning who would raise his children if he were to die. Ames stayed with the children and assured Beaumont, Peters partner, that he would change the will if Peters did not survive. Beaumont agreed to become the children's guardian.

Have you listened to any of Gene Engene’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've been reading the Beaumont series and so far Gene Eugene has been the narrator. You can rest assured, if your're wondering about Eugene's narration, there should not be a problem.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, I had no extreme reaction to this book. However, there were a few tense moments and Beaumont and Peters do make me laugh. Both of these characteristics, make the book interesting and enjoyable.

Any additional comments?

The character's in, Trial by Fury, do enhance one another. The book is only eight hours which is short for me. I usually will finish the book in one day, as I did, Trial by Fury. Jance keeps to the plot and brings the plot to its conclusion. I will continue with the series because I have not been disappointed with the first three. I know that I'll be able to read a well developed short mystery, that I will lay back and enjoy.

Ok story, but the narrator really is not good..

Would you try another book from J. A. Jance and/or Gene Engene?

I have avoided Gene Engene for a couple of years. I listened to one the the Beaumont books with him as narrator and had trouble getting through his barking and whining. There does not seem to be an inbetween with him. Beaumont barks, everyone else whines. I thought maybe it was time to give Engene another try - the story seemed interesting. But, I struggled through his narration and I will not give him another try. I do like JA Jance, but I will have to skip the Beaumont books.
